But is the King of Utility going to be dethroned? For some years now Yamaha's famous Grizzly 700 w/ EPS has edged out all of the competition including large bore competetors such as Can-AM and Kawasaki in open bore shoot outs. Yamaha's crank power wasn't the factor in the king of the hill titles, it was the EPS and handling that gave it the edge.

Now, the competition is catching up with with Honda offering EPS, and now Polaris has released a 500 class AND an 800 class with powersteering! Not to be out done, Suzuki has released a 500 class with EPS and a 700 class with EPS! I don't think the Zuki utilities will be a threat to Yamaha's throne simply because the stance these quads take is very tall where as the Grizzly's is lower and offers a much more stable feeling on the trails. Now what about the Polaris? Everyone knows Polaris machines are famous for their plush rides and now that they have released a revamped 850 with EPS, anti-kickback steering, rolled IRS, 14" Rims and wheels, and new ergonomics, the King of the hill may just have a fight on it's hands. I'm very curious how the next open bore shootouts will turn out for the 2009 model year quads!

well i did my research before I bought and the Grizz came out #1 to me.
I havent ridden any of the others so I cant give an educated opinion.
I guess we will have to see when they get released.
Either way, i aint getting rid of the grizz...

There is one thing the others don't offer my friend. That is the dependability of a Yamaha. Sure every make has their bugs, but I think Yamaha has limited those bugs very well. Honda also makes a reliable machine but they keep forgetting about true 4x4 don't they?

I believe Yamaha has It's work cut out in maintaining it's easy lead. All the other quad manufacturer's are taking strides to over come there problems. Yamaha in it's only real change for '09 is the 550. It looks as if there just compacting the mass production ability. I really enjoy my grizzly and glad I paid the money for it but I do see Yamaha's grip on the top slipping.:beer"

Well. I do see a lot of things from the competitors. I do mean a lot. But I just can't see them doing what Yamaha has done. Yamaha has done a wonderful job creating a trail perfect machine. They say there isn't a machine who does it all. Well BS. Look at the 700. It has power, handling, and looks.

That's it. Right? It might not be the fastest. But the handling will get it there faster.

Don' t get me wrong....I think yamaha needs to step up. But for everthing that's going on...I think they (yamaha) have proven their worth. ( I still think yami has one mean fight on its hands this year.) Have I mentioned Yamaha's dependability? That has to stand for something.

Now how's that for devils advocate?

True for 09.. but in 07 Yamaha completely remade the griz 700 from the ground up. So far it is taking the others 2+ years to catchup to that. A manufacturer cant change the model every year with the exception of color, or special editions, or bolt on accessories simply because it would cost to much. if you added up the costs to design, engineer, test, perfect then release a machine like that I'm sure it is in the millions. You can bet money that they know what the competitors are up to and that even though they wont upgrade the Grizz model for a few years they have something up their sleeve.... Maybe a cross-over sport/ute. Sport quad suspension with racks and lights and mud tires, oh my..... Since Arctic Cat has the mud pro maybe Yamaha can design one of them..or how about a specialty rock crawler, kinda like the trials (not trails) bike, remember them?.. hmmm. Anyway what ever the next hot Ute is you can bet everyone will be trying better it. But like previously stated, it wont have the Yamaha quality and dependability.

I agree with you whole heartedly, but I doubt they will come out with something like the mudpro. They will just come out with a Uty and sporty that will dominate for a few more years. Who's to say what they will do, but I'm like you. I bet they'll do it.

If I were placing bets I would say the Polaris Sportsman 850 wins the magazine shootouts this year. I'm not saying it is best, and I'm certainly not saying I would buy one, but I suspect it will take the top spot in the shootouts.

x2 but I'm saying I would buy one. If real estate stays steady for me into next year....let's just say I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I hate to say it... but I'm gonna have to go with the griz being knocked off the top... But hey... These last 9 years have been really good for the consumers... We've seen so much more competition between the manufacturers and that can only benefit us... it's great that we have all of these options out there... And they're only gonna get better...

Re:Yamaha started it.

Ya i definitely agree with you but you know that consumer is very large field and it have many small products and customers also complain if they paid full payment and they are not satisfy from that product. One sample of customer's complain is "I bought it,i advise all people thinking about buying it dont, its a scam,i never even got a chance to try using it,when i opened the vial there was a foul odormit was unuseable, and there is no way to contact them."
