I have a question about my Kodiak 450 4 wheel drive. It is a 2005. I just changed the brakes on it and noticed that when you turn the wheel by hand, the left side turns freely. When you turn the right side it turns but it is choppy. I removed the axle and checked it, it is fine. The front differential is what is making the wheel feel that way. 2 dealers tell me that is normal, and 2 others say there is something wrong. Can someone tell me who is right? It does have 2 switches for the front axle, and I did have trouble disengaging the front axle once but thought it was due to the weather -20 that day. thanks in advance. Rodney

GRIZZLYWIZARD
Some Grizzly 700's do this as well. I am not sure if it is normal or not. Do you have any play in the resistive side?

Resistive side? the left side has no drag at all, right side does.
The way I drive it is hard, mountains in new york, w. Virgina, Tenn. I even shattered the fenders by falling through a frozen river before the bike was a year old.
That was the day I had trouble getting the front axle to disengage.
I have 3 bikes and all of them needed brakes so I thought that it was normal to need them since they are the same year.

Old post I know.
The differences from side to side are because one side has the ring gear etc on it.
The other is nothing but an axle spinning in bearings until you hit the lock button.
At least on the Grizz thats how it is.
Even when in regualr 4wd (not locked) the opposite sides will have differing amounts of drag because of the set-up they use
If you find a site that has parts diagrams it makes sense.
