Yamaha Motors claims that sales have dropped nearly 8% in 2007 selling only 301,000 Motorcycles and ATV's compared to a 327,000 units sold in 2006.

On the bright side it appears that sales of side by sides have increased and is up a little more than 7% from 39,000 units in 2006 to 42,000 units in 2007.

Ok...so if ATV's are down by 8% and SxS's are up by 7% then they really only lost 1%; right? This probably because of the nervous consumer and maybe, possibly, something to do with the new bigger big bores coming out. I honestly think that if Yamaha wants to continue to be a power hitter, they are going to have put one of those awesome V-Twins they have on a utility quad and SxS frame. :evil6: If a better big bore can be built, yamaha can do it. JMHO :glasses2:
Just found this info:

"2007 was a record year for Yamaha

Powersports Business
Tuesday February 5, 2008

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. reported what was in many ways a record year for the company during fiscal 2007, ended Dec. 31, 2007, in a statement Feb. 5

Net sales increased 11 percent from the previous year, to 1,756.7 billion yen ($16.4 billion). Operating income rose 2.8 percent, to 127.0 billion yen ($1.2 billion) and ordinary income climbed 11.9 percent, to 140.3 billion yen ($1.3 billion). All the figures broke records for the company. However, net income decreased 7.8 percent to 71.2 billion yen ($666 million) during the fiscal year. Yamaha indicated the fall was due to a special provision for an accrual for product liabilities.

Motorcycle sales increased 15.5 percent from the previous fiscal year, exceeding one trillion yen for the first time in company history at 1,056.2 billion yen ($9.9 billion), thanks to favorable sales in Indonesia, Vietnam and Brazil."

I really thought that the 700 grizzly gave them a shot in the arm! Everywhere you look someone has one.
Reading through their financials it says atv sales decreased in the US while demand stayed the same. Yet sidexside sales grew exponetially. Overall sales still increased 3.8% in the US for yamaha-motor. :icon_thumleft:

At least they are not in the red. It's going to be real hard the next year or so to continue keeping those numbers up. One thing they have going for them is brand loyalty and and a very competitive product line.
Luckily it's not just Yamaha it's all similar companies. They're still doing strong. SxS's will still be huge for them and like you said they're not in the red. I don't think they have to worry. If ford can loose the equivalent of 1 mustang a minute in 2006 and still survive, then I think Yamaha has nothing to worry about. LMAO
