As I posted in another thread, I am buying a new winch. I am looking at the Viper winches. I have also heard the Gorilla winches were good. I wold like a Warn, but I can buy almost 3 Viper winches for the cost of 1 Warn winch.

So what do you think is the best?

i have a 3000 lb gorrila it cost me about 150 with a mounting plate. i have had it for over a year now. i have had to replace the winch motor and the contactor which is about 50 more bucks. but i always am out mudding mine. but if i did not mud it so much it would just work fine

I have the Warn RT 25. Excellent winch. I bought it from a guy brand new for $100 and it was worth every penny of it. My favorite winch all in all though is the Warn XT 30. That is very nice. I will eventually convert mine to synthetic someday.

I also reviewed the RT 25. Click here for Warn RT 25 review.

I am going with Warn, too! I tried to get by with an off brand winch when we got our grizz's and I spent more time and money dealing with issues, than I would have if I would have just gotten a warn to begin with, now I have the xt25 and love it. Also Gander Mountain had them at a sale price online, may be worth looking into! I got the XT25 cheaper than I could have got the RT25 anywhere else!

Ive got a 2500 warn mounted on the front of my Grizz and another on the rear and love them. I know people that have tried other brands and have had durability issues. WARN has my vote.

I'm sticking with Warn, but have no experince other than hear-say with other winches.

I had a RT25 on my Grizz and it worked good. I have the BRP XL3000 on my Outty. I haven't really dug in behind the plastic to see who really makes it. This sparked my interest though and I'll have to take peek.

i'm pretty sure that is made by warn.

There are several good winch manufacturer out there, Warn being one. Other good ones are Mile Marker (they make the winches for the military), Superwinch and Ramsey come to mind. I have used all the above in different capacities and they have all proven themselves worthy. Some companies just spend more on marketing rather than product development.

funny you should mention superwinch... after talking with you and buster the other night, i dusted off a superwinch 1500 that i couldn't pass up a year or two ago (damn craigslist!). anyway, i tore it down and cleaned the brushes/contacts and sealed everything back up. might just throw it on the renegade in the near future. 1500 lb pull ain't a whole lot, but i'm used to getting myself out on my own anyway!

You could always use a snatch block and turn your 1500 lb into a 3000 lb. I always try to use one when applicable.
