There has been an aweful lot of talk about the Fix clutch sheave, the Dalton clutch kit, the EPI clutch kit, and roller weight changes from other ATV models. There are several post on this site, and several currently running on other sites as well. It is enough to make your head spin. Maybe if we each listed what we have finally settled on it would help build a general consensus of what works for a particular ATV and the tire size it is running.

I tried the Fix sheave, the stock sheave, and eight different combinations of clutch weights. And I did timed runs on an uphill 6% pavement slope, with 200', 300', and 400' long races against the stop watch with each combination. The fastest time was only one consideration, and how the ATV felt out on the trail was also a big consideration.

I finally have settled on the stock Grizzly 700 sheave, with eight Grizzly 660 roller weights (total roller weight of 144 grams). This seems to give the best combination of quick acceleration without the excess RPM that can decrease fuel mileage on long trail rides. My Grizzly 700 has 25" Terracross tires and is ridden in the Rocky Mountains.

What clutch set up did you settle on?

what clutch weight setup do you think would benefit the grizz 660? I am running the 26" xtrs' I have seen many on here running 4 660 weights and 4 kodiac weights.. On their 700's, Is this the best set for these tries on a 660? Does anyone one know what weights come with the FIX Hole Shot kit for the 660? would you recommend that kit versus the dalton Kit, (that kit also comes with the secondary clutch spring?) they must be less weight than the stock but more than the kodiak.
Seems like if all I need is kodiak weights I can just buy 4 kodiak weights and save a ton of Dough, especially since the FIX kit in 119.00 and Dalton about the same... thanks.. I still need to figure out the best way to hold the sheave, I do not have a impact gun and I want to be able to torque it down correctly.. So I would be using my big torque wrench breaker bar. thanks everyone!

Well, it can' hurt for you to try 4 Kodiak weights in the 660 to see what it gains. None of us that have done multiple weight swaps have a 660 so it's hard to say what of our tests will work optimally for you. I would start with 4 Kodiaks and if that seems too agressive, jump back to just 2 Kodiak weights. However, I don't see 4 Kodiak weights being too agressive on a 660 with 26" XTRs.

I'm not sure what gram weights are provided with the Fix 660 sheave as what we were told was provided with the 700 sheave was a bit heavier than we found. Possibly it's b/c the weight we were given was not including the plastic casing on the weights and that made up the difference. It's hard to know without pulling the plastic off of one and trying it.

Maybe someone that has done a Dalton kit can lend some insight into that portion of your question as I've not tried it and don't want to speculate for you.

As for holding the sheave without having access to an impact, I was not successful. Someone posted that there's a sheave holding tool but later couldn't find where to buy it. I've also read of people securing a ratchet strap around the sheave somehow and were able to set the hooks onto the frame to secure it. In a quick try or two, I couldn't get it to work easily so grabbed up my impact and said screw it. Finding the tool would be the best bet.

The Yamaha part number for the tool is YS-01880 or 90890-01701 so you may wanna google it to find a supplier or order it from a Yamaha dealer.

Here's one I found.

I hope that helps a little.

thanks for the info. that link to that store does not sell retail to get that part, so it will be some more tinkering to figure out how to hold the sheave some more. As for the weight change, I found a post that Grizzly Wizard posted saying they swapped 4 kodiak weights for 4 grizzly weights for great results in a 660 as well as a 700. And for a few bucks I can get kodiak weights.
Do a mod for under 20 bucks. Now as for the plastic sleave.. Do the 660 weights have sleave over them? first things first will be the instal of the AMR ignition coil, Saturday. :headbang: :banging:

The weights are generally $3-5 from a dealer. I don't know how much the plastic sheathing weighs but all weights, Kodiak, 700, 660 anf Fix weights come with taht sheathing on them. Dalton weights do NOT but they recommend you cutting the sheathing off of your stock weights and slipping them on their weights. I'm guessing the sheathing gives some sound deadening results rather than justa metal weight sliding and banging around in the sheave.
