I haven't seen much on the subject of belts & what brands others use. Or the impression users have for different brand belts.

So, I want to ask everyone, "What Belt Do You Use ?"

I ride a 2003 660 Yamaha Grizzly. My Yamaha snowmobiling buddies, tell me to run only Yamaha factory belts. But here's my issue.

Some time back, I think last summer, I had about 1500 miles on the machine & decided to clean & inspect the clutch. I also installed a Dalton clutch kit at this time.
So I break out the service manual & read the spec's on belt wear & limits.
My belt was within 0.08 of needing replacement by what I read in the service manual. So I & two of my riding buddies, ordered a NEW Yahama Factory belt.
When the three belts arrived, we measured the width of each belt, expecting them to be the width the service manual stated a new belt should be.

DAMN .... not one of the three belts measured what the service manual stated they should ... AND .... all three belts measured a slightly different width.
Needless to say, I for one, was not happy.

On another forum, I read where a Kawi rider raved about his Dayco belt & it got me to think'in .....

1) What brand belt are others using ??
2) Are you pleased with that brand of belt ??
3) Did you measure the width against what the service manual states a new belt width should be ?? How close was the measurement, if not to spec width ?
4) What brands belts have you tried ? What are your impressions of each of those brands ??

I want to thank all who reply to this thread & pass along their impressions of "What is a good Belt" .....

Thanks ...

Later ....

It appears we won't be gett'in any GOOD info from Koko :laughing4: .... Oh, L.L. Bean Khaki's make a .... difference ?? :bs: ... Sure .... whatever you say Koko ! ::)

Battlegun ... I was hoping to hear maybe SOME good news about other aftermarket brand belts .... for ATV's Koko ... not your freak'in trousers ! :BangHead: ... but alas .... I haven't heard much if any.

Hopefully, so others .... besides Koko ... with his "Wear all Brown or Black Fossil" belt ... :sign10: ... have some experience with some other brands & can let us all know if they are even worth considering, let alone use.

Grizzlywizard ... good point.

Koko ... any other fashion tips for us while we're on the subject of "Belts" ??? ... ;;t;;

as far as can ams go, i've heard only horror stories regarding the dayco belt. there are a couple other companies making aftermarket belts for the renegade/outlander, but the only one that physically looks as beefy as the brp belt is the epi severe duty. i think i'll wait to hear more on it before i trust an aftermarket supplier, considering all of the bad stuff i've heard. the oem belt is just so darn expensive! :protest:

I was think'in maybe I'd try an EPI Extreme belt next ... but just lately, I've read some horror stories with them as well ... so I guess I'll stay with OEM :beer" ...

I've put about 500 miles on my Grizz this past winter, with tracks, stuck a couple times ... pushed it hard up a few hills, etc ... and the belt was a year old with approx 1200 miles on it before I started my winter riding ... not one issue :cheer: .... so it's OEM for me .... besides .... were I ride alone so much way out in the bush in the winter .... I don't need to be worry'in about my Grizzlys belt com'in apart .... Savvy ??

heard that. do they make a "severe duty" for the grizzly? on the renegade, i noticed the epi "extreme duty" looked smaller than the brp oem belt, but the SD looked comparable. unfortunately, it was only around $20 less than oem, from what i recall. :protest:
