When riding last Saturday & was it a blast or what ?? We've been getting a lot of snow in the mountains the last 10 days, but no sun. So the snow has just been piling up. And with no sun, there hasn't been any melting & freezing to create a "Base" ... so when you go riding in 5 ft of fluffy powder ... you need to have your ATV in 4-wheel drive ..... :beer"
The day started off cloudy, wind blow'in about 25 or 30 mph, snowing, with a temp of about 7 degrees (the high for the day up there was on 13 degrees) ... so the wind chill made a guy wait as long as possible to answer natures calls .... Savvy ?? :cold:
I started out heading up the groomed snowmobile trail to get to where I like to play in the powder .... as I'm going up the trail, I decide to pull out into this wide area & throw some of that powder around .... however, I failed to notice ... I was only in 2-wheel drive .... Son-Of- **** !!!!
When I stepped off the bike to take this pic, I went to my waist in that fluffy powder snow. And I'm not sure what's more work, wading thru 5 ft of that fluffy stuff, or digging the Grizz out. :icon_pale:
Winches only do any good if there is something to winch to ... so I dug out the snow from underneath, cleared a small path for the rear tracks so I could back up just a little ... and cleared out a sloped path in front ... pushed in the 4-wheel drive button, backed up a little, put'er in High, & drove right out. :headbang:
Ya know, it's amazing what one of these Quads will do ... in 4-wheel drive !!! :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:
Now, not all was bad about getting stuck however, cause that shiney new orange snow shovel I was packing ... well I got to use it & I'm happy to report, that little bugger works great !!! :cheer:
I have another pic of me later in the day rid'in around in that 5 ft of fluffy powder with no problems ... of course, I was in 4-wheel drive, which made it so much more fun ! But that pic is at home & I'll post it later.
