When riding last Saturday & was it a blast or what ?? We've been getting a lot of snow in the mountains the last 10 days, but no sun. So the snow has just been piling up. And with no sun, there hasn't been any melting & freezing to create a "Base" ... so when you go riding in 5 ft of fluffy powder ... you need to have your ATV in 4-wheel drive ..... :beer"

The day started off cloudy, wind blow'in about 25 or 30 mph, snowing, with a temp of about 7 degrees (the high for the day up there was on 13 degrees) ... so the wind chill made a guy wait as long as possible to answer natures calls .... Savvy ?? :cold:

I started out heading up the groomed snowmobile trail to get to where I like to play in the powder .... as I'm going up the trail, I decide to pull out into this wide area & throw some of that powder around .... however, I failed to notice ... I was only in 2-wheel drive .... Son-Of- **** !!!!

When I stepped off the bike to take this pic, I went to my waist in that fluffy powder snow. And I'm not sure what's more work, wading thru 5 ft of that fluffy stuff, or digging the Grizz out. :icon_pale:

Winches only do any good if there is something to winch to ... so I dug out the snow from underneath, cleared a small path for the rear tracks so I could back up just a little ... and cleared out a sloped path in front ... pushed in the 4-wheel drive button, backed up a little, put'er in High, & drove right out. :headbang:

Ya know, it's amazing what one of these Quads will do ... in 4-wheel drive !!! :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumleft:

Now, not all was bad about getting stuck however, cause that shiney new orange snow shovel I was packing ... well I got to use it & I'm happy to report, that little bugger works great !!! :cheer:

I have another pic of me later in the day rid'in around in that 5 ft of fluffy powder with no problems ... of course, I was in 4-wheel drive, which made it so much more fun ! But that pic is at home & I'll post it later.

Later .....

I can't imagine getting those tracks stuck, but I guess with that much snow anything is possible!

(I can't even get a flurry down here!)
I am the same way, it has been in the 60's and raining for the last week!

I can't believe the tracks got stuck! But, I guess when there is no bottom to what you are on, and u have a brain fart, and forget to put the 4WD in, bad things normally happen. I feel for ya, gunny that's how I got stuck in bout 3ft. water last time! Hey, but glad to see thw tracks worked good for ya after that! :)

Brain Fart ?? ... Oh that hurt dude !! :crybaby2:

I like to think, due to the excitment of the first ride with the tracks on, :cheer2: I temporarly forgot I wasn't at home plowing what little snow we have there ... therefore, due to the cold wind :cold: ... my thought processes were temporarily frozen & non-functioning .... and with the blowing snow ... it caused me to worry about eye safety & self preservation :cold: .... which, while throughly having a blast bomb'in down the trail ... snow fly'in with a sh*t-eat'in grin on my face & yell'in .. WOO HOO !!! :icon_thumleft: ..... I got the brite idea to pull off the main trail ..... failing to check that everything was in a "GO" status for such an activity :dontknow: .................. Ah ........ Yeah, I guess I had a brain fart !! :salute:

:rotfl: See I know it sounds harsh, but as you just stated, everything was great and you thought of everything, or so you thought. So your mind overlooked that little red button, I could have been harsh and said that they made that button red so you don't overlook it. I mean how hard is it to see a red button in nothing but white and black? ;;s;;

It's all good cuz after you got stuck you laughed, then it sucked digging it out, then after you got out, you laughed again. That is what makes it all worth while!

Yeah, I hear ya, I unfortunately get stuck in that mud normally! It normally starts with "Hey ya'll watch this", or "That don't look too bad!" Next thing I know I am buried in the mud, and have nowhere to go except off into waist deep water! Oh, and are you red/green color blind, or completely?

Ahhh ... that's kind of a personal question don't ya think ?? .... WHAT ?? .... Oh, my eyes ! ... are my eyes colorblind !? :hello:

Well .... I can see Red & Green .... but ya know those colorblind flip charts ?? .... Well, all I see with those, is little multi-colored round dots !!! .... One time, I did see a number however .... but I was informed after the test, it was the WRONG number ! ....... The Dirty Bast$#@ !!!

Oh, when you have to step off the Grizz into that deep, cold, muddy water .... I'd like to bet that water goes .... everywhere huh !!?? .... :boohoo:

Gun, just take the vids, send em to me or GW as a WMV file and we'll convert them either to youtube or something else for you. I can do youtube. GW can make them even better cuz he's got all the vid editing software and I don't. He's a master a video editing.

I saw an ATV with tracks on it yesterday. It was the first time I've seen one with tracks, in action. The wife and I were about 30 miles west of where we live, in the Pinion pine and Juniper forest of the high desert, about 11 miles from the nearest paved road. We were in the Jeep, and struggling a bit to cut a path through the hub deep snow. Out of the blue a Polaris 850 passes us with a set of tracks on the ATV. Pretty amazing how easily that ATV went through the 18" deep snow.

I'm thinking he had his ATV in four wheel drive though.

Have fun with those tracks Gunny.
