Utah has got to be one of the most ATV friendly states in the USA. There are numerous different ATV trail systems to choose from, including the Paiute Trail System, the Arapeen Trail System, the Great Western Trail System, the Duck Creek Trail System, the Paunsaugunt Trail System, the Cricket Mountain Trail System, the Amasa Basin Trail System, and others that I'm sure I have forgotten. Riding ATVs on the road is even legal in Utah, with certain restrictions regarding which streets are legal, and the population of the town. I would encourage anyone planning an ATVing vacation to consider Utah as a destination. For more information regarding ATVing in Utah go to http://www.atvutah.com/.

ATV dealers in Utah have a CD that they give away free of charge to anyone that ask for it. It is called the "2008 Utah Trails CD", and it has literally thousands of miles and hundreds of different ATV trails on it. All you have to do is walk into any ATV dealer and ask for it. No purchase necessary.

You are one hard core ATVer if you're going to Moab in July. Temps will be in the 100 to 106 range. Might be a good time to explore the LaSal Mountains, and to explore some of the higher elevation areas around Monticello.

There is also the Duck Creek trails where I went up today and it was 68 degrees up there where we parked the truck at. It has some beautiful scenery and some rocky places to keep some of the more advanced people happy if you are going in the southern part of Utah this is one place I recommend. And some of you might have seen some pics on the fourm already they are from 3TV who is a fellow Riding Buddy.

Truer words were never spoken then the glory of the Utah trail systems and the states top notch willingness to preserve and maintaine the trails and support atv rider's.
I was lucky enought to explore the Paiute Trails on the Labor day weekend,with some fellow grizzly members. Amazing is what I call it,the most beautiful and ever changing landscape thru out the system. I want to go back right now, but alast it will have to waite until the grizzly's repaired from the last trip up there.lol

3TV, you are so right ! :headbang: .... Even though I live in Northern Utah, I haven't seen much need to go South to ride. I mean, we have some great trails up North here .... that was until my younger brother took me down to Mayfield, Utah where his in-laws live. He took up me on the Southern end of the Arapeen ATV trail system. I really enjoyed it, so when I got home, I talked a friend into going down there for seven days, from 27 July thru 02 Aug of this year. And I all I can say is .... That was some of the best damn ATV'in I've done. :hello2:

We had it all ... snow, mud, dust, water, sunshine, rain, heat, cold, .... no bugs by the way ... & lots of game. We saw Grouse, Deer, Elk, Rock Chucks, Ducks .... & your friendly squirrel or two & chipmunks .... of which one hitched a ride home on my truck somehow & ran off to the neighbors when I was park'in the trailer .... the little bast&%$ !!!
We did 212 miles in five days rid'in & averaged 8.8 mph by the GPS. So that tells ya, even thou at times we rode at speeds of 25 to 35 mph .... as a whole .... we didn't go very fast. And we covered elevation changes from a low of 6400 ft to a high of 10,900 ft. (My GPS only reads four digits, so we may have been slightly higher) :wav:

I had planned on post'in some pic's way back then .... but the old website was so stink'in slow .... I just gave up. I have posted a few of the pic's in my gallery. (Had to test it out so the IT guys could get the bugs out) :icon_thumleft:

Anyway, after show'in my pic's to my two brothers ... they & my rid'in partner are plann'in another week long trip for next year ... either down on the Arapeen trail again .... or down where Desertrat did some travel'in ..... And if things workout right, I may hookup with Desertrat & give him a bad time about,'Yes, too much of a good thing CAN be bad !" (in reference to the oil in his diff) ;D :eek:ccasion14:

BTW Desertrat .... those pic's are awesome. You guys look like you're set up pretty darn sweet. I love that trailer the one guy is pull'in. ;;t;;

Flipper .... You Da Man .... And I'm jealous ! bowdown
Three weeks all by yourself out in the woods ?? My rid'in partner is retired & he goes down to Moab for two weeks at a time & does that "All Alone" thing two or three times a year. It just pisses me right the heck off I tell ya !!!!

Well, like 3TV & others have wrote .... if you can get out this way .... you should. It's some great ATV'in ! :cheer:

Later ...

I am interested in that trailer that open into a tent. That looks pretty cool.

Me and Buddy just did a 4 day ride and camp last week in the UP of MI. It was by far the best trip ever for us. The trails there are pretty smooth and a lot of them where old railroad tracks that was removed. So we ended up getting 550 miles because you could cruise 35-40mph for hours at a time. But the scenery was awesome, and cant wait to do it again.

I would really love to go out there in Utah for a ATV camping trip. Who knows what 2009 may bring

Bandit,
First, some of the high mountian trails/roads don't even open until mid to late June (on the Piute trail) as some of them are around 11,000 ft (give or take).

I spent some time in central Utah (South portion of the Arapeen ATV Trail system) at 10,000 ft plus, end of Jul first of Aug of this year & we ran into one trail that was still blocked by snow. (You could go around however)

Personally, I would say late August to late September ... and even then, you will have to deal with hunting seasons. And the weather could become a factor that time of year. (Not normally, but at high altitudes, one never knows) :eek:

If you plan on ATV'ing & camping on the Piute trail, hopefully 3TV & Desertrat will give ya some advice as I think they've spent a lot more time there than I have. :icon_thumleft:

At the high altitudes (say, 9000 to 11,000 ft) in early July, temps will run in the mid 70's to low 80's (or warmer) & the evenings will be cool. ::)

But for me, anytime I could get away would be good. ;;t;; ;;t;;

I'm a lot of dad-gum help ain't I ?? :banging:

Plan a trip & Enjoy my friend .... :BangHead:

Later ...

I am thinking of a way we all could do it. I do have access to a very long trailer for hauling golf carts, maybe 6-8 quads.

I do think its possible to do, if we had at east 4 people. That would only be about $300 in gas each for round trip. And we all would fit very comfortable in my Sub and have room on trl for 4 quads. Its almost 1800 miles from Columbus OH, We could drive 14 hours and stop half way and stay in a hotel.
I think we should start planning soon. I can pick my vacations for next year in December.

The Rocky Mountain ATV Jamboree is in September each year, and is based in Richfield, UT. If you are coming to Utah to attend the Jamboree then that is the time you need to be there. If you are not coming to attend the Jamboree then that is NOT the time you want to be there. Motels and camp grounds will be full, and the trails will have lots of traffic on them. The Jamboree is fun though. Honda sponsored the Jamboree the year they released the Rincon, and the Jamboree was its first public appearance. Kawasaki sponsored the Jamboree one year when they released a new ATV, and the Jamboree was that ATVs first public appearance as well. Polaris has also sponsored the Jamboree on some years. The Jamboree also has an ATV parade, vendors displays, free drawings, and an ATV rodeo that is a lot of fun.

Sounds like a great idea to me. We'll need to get something planned for next summer. Glad to hear your Grizzly is good as new again.
