We wanted to let everyone know that we just got word that we'll be receiving a coil kit from Dynatek for the Grizzly 700 to review. Dynatek has decided to give these to us to go along with the Dynatek CDI box and we'll be receiving them in the next few days.

Please stay tuned for a full review on the Coil Kit as well as the CDI box from Dynatek.

As always, ATV Torture is most appreciative of Dynatek for their contributions to our ATV product reviews.

WE aren't too sure of the technical specs of it yet. Many machines have a fairly week spark from the factory while some are quite hot. This will be a great addition once installed to be able to compare for any additional gains.

A well built ignition coil will provide your machine, whether it be a street bike, a quad, dirtbike or sled with a more powerful and consistent spark to the plug. Depending on the R&D done on the factory coil on whatever your application is, this can lead to horsepower gains if you go from a poorly designed factory coil to a greatly tested aftermarket coil.

For example, Dynatek has found that the factory coil on a CBR1100XX Blackbird is not producing at optimal levels. After installing the Dyna coil on it, they saw a 3-4 HP gain on the dyno on that bike by simply adding their coil. Will you get that return on all? No. It depends purely on how well the manufacturer has R&Ded the coil prior to releasing it on that particular machine. Some are superior, some are inferior. Will we find out if it helps one of our Grizzly test quads? Yes. Hopefully it will be a great addition to the Dynatek CDI box.

Soon enough, we will know.

Like I've wrote before, I have a 660, however, a coil upgrade is a coil upgrade. I'll be watch'in for this review.

As a side note, I use to race my Banshee & changing the coil made a noticeable difference. So I figure it ought to help on a four stroke too.

Well, I would like to post some flicks, both of the Banshee & the Grizz, but most my flicks don't meet the size limit .... a tad to large .... funny, I hear that from the wife a lot .... :sign10: :dontknow: :icon_thumleft:

And right now, it's to much trouble ot resize them. Maybe when I get some "Nothing else to do but play on the computer" time, I'll play with it .... resiz'in the flicks that is ....... :laughing7: :laughing7:

Damn, I've got to cut back on the amount of sugar in my coffee ....... :laughing4: :laughing4:

Are your images too large to post based on their dimensions or filesize?

Most are 640X480 & between 178KB to approx 200KB .... some may be a few more KB, ........ and from I read, the limit is 175KB ..... can't remember if that was at the gallery or the garage.

I have tried to rezise a few photo's, but they look so freak'in little after, I didn't think anyone could see anything. Then I tried the compress file thing, can't remember if that worked or not, but either way, I then have to save that flick which gives me two of each flick.

Don't worry to much about it, I'll play around sooner or later. I need to learn how to do this stuff anyway.

Thanks ...

I understand you not wanting to take the time to resize a bunch of files 1x1. I have created a thread here that may be of interest to you as it will tell you how to batch resize a single file or group of files and make copies or just overwrite existing files.

For future reference, I've saved it in the "Graphics Help" board.

Ahhh, funny you should ask. I'm working on a write-up as a matter of fact. it will include some images. In the meantime, here are some pointers that will be included in my full write-up.

The right side panel is all ya gotta pull and yep the directions suck. Gary also pulled his airbox but I didn't. May have been easier since the airbox is pretty easy to yank.

Ignore the part about the blue and yellow wire as well as the part about the wire tapping into the throttle body connector yellow wire. It's no longer necessary. You'll have a Y-connector that looks like the throttle body plug. Unplug the throttle body connector from the throttle body, plug it into the y-connector and the other side of the Y back to the throttle body.

Connect the coil up as directed. I reconnected my reverse connector to the quad as I didn't like loosing functionaility fo the reverse light. All it did anyway was remove the reverse rev limit anyway which i care nothing about removing personally. I do care though to know for sure if I'm in reverse or not. That being said, if you don't object to the reverse rev limiter, skip that step.

As far as the other plugs, they can't be connected wrong as the plugs on the harness will only match up to a single plug on the bike down there on the right side under the airbox.

Did that help?

Well Dynatek was Johnny on the spot as usual. They overnighted the Coil Kits to me and they're on my back porch as I sit at work, awaiting departure time.

Looks like I have a project for tonight. :cheer:

Well I got the coil kit installed when I got home last night. Overall, it's a very well made unit and the instructions that came with it were easy to follow. The total installation took about 15 minutes including the time I took to remove and replace the right side panel for easier access.

I haven't had a chance to ride it other than down the street as we have rain here this weekend. I also rode it down my driveway and around my backyard. Overall, it seems to idle even more smoothly now. I did notice that now that I have it on, if I just give a little juice off the start, the wheeler dies like it used to before I added a fuel controller. I know, don't throttle like a girl and it won't be an issue. Anyway, my guess is hotter spark, burning more fuel so it needs more fuel at idle. I'm gonna bump my fuel controller up a half bump and see how it does.

My initial thought is that this item will compliment the CDI box nicely as both of these products have made the Grizz700 just feel smoother all around. It's near impossible to describe the difference in the feeling of smoothness that I'm trying to describe, but acceleration, idle, just the vibration of the motor is more crisp and SMOOTHER. Something you can't understand until you add these items and go, OHHHHH, now I see.

Let me see if I help you understood smoothness as I'm referring to it. Take 2 cars, a brand new corvette, which has a lot of power, is fuel injected and when you get on the gas, you receive that power and feel it beneath you in a real smooth and crisp power band. Folllowing me? Now, take an old Corvette with a carbureted big block. Again, a lot of power and more so than the new injected Vette. SO, in the old collector car, you roll into the gas and again, you can feel the power, but it's different. It's more of a vibratory, rough feeling power than driving the new one. I know, it's not really the same but it's the best I can do to help you understand until you just get off the coin and go buy one for yourself.

Anyway, I hope that helps to give you a feel for how the CDI box along with the Coil kit have helped the feel and crispness of power on the Grizlly 700. Personally, I'm very impressed with the change they've made.

Over and above what's noted below, I don't have an udpate. Since my last writing, I haven't time to get any seat time. I will be riding Thursday to dull a full review on the clutch sheave as it will arrive tomorrow. This will give me an oportune time to test both parts.
