Congratulations Buster. I'm very interested to hear what you think after a few test rides. If they're like the aftermarket shocks I have, then as good as the suspension improvement is, the improvement in handling will be even more. Enjoy!

I cruised around my backyard tonight before it got too late to be cruising with loud exhaust. Intitially, they seem to make a hellatious improvement in handling and ride control over some bumpety-bumps that my quad normally would about bounce my teeth out on. Granted, they're a different feel all around so they will require me making some adjustment to my riding style, but from 5 minutes of easy-course riding, I can see the difference the rebound, compression and lowered height make on maneuvarability and handling.

It's really amazing from the quick test ride. I can't wait 'til the weekend when I can get it out on the wide open trail. Tuesday evening, I'm gonna go for a short couple mile ride that I can zip through and see how it feels.

Overall, the stance is much lower, I think 2 1/2 inches lower but with that lower center of gravity, it feels much better. That, coupled with my new 14" wheels and GBC Dirt Commander tires, the handling is just sick compared to before! I'm now sitting at about 10" at the bottom of the floorboards where before I think I was 12 1/2 inches with my 26" tires.

Once I've tested it a bit, I will add a full review and ride report.

PLUS, this weekend a 11:1 Wiseco goes in if the gaskets arrive in time. WHOOP-WHOOP!!!!

Thanks guys. I just simply can't get over how much lower it looks every time I look at it, especially in person. From the pictures, you simply can't fully grasp the stance it has now. It being lower, looking at it from behind, it almost looks wider as well. Optical illusion obviously but it is pretty bad lookin', I must say.

Thats the same thing I noticed with my Grizzly with the Ohlins shocks on it. It almost doesn't even look like a Grizzly anymore. We went for a 65 mile ride over the weekend with our two Grizzly 700s, one of our sons driving the Rhino, another son riding his Raptor 250, another fellow riding a Raptor 700, and another couple riding two up on an Outlander 800 Max. Part way through the day my son and I swapped rides for a while, and I drove the Rhino while he rode my Grizzly 700. After several miles I stopped and waited for the rest of the crew to catch up, and when my son pulled up on my Grizzly 700 I'm like "who is that?" It didn't even look like a Grizzly, but more like a low & wide GNCC race quad pulling up to the group. Definitely a dramatic transformation by going to the aftermarket shocks, thats for sure.

I'm sure you'll really like the Elka's Buster.

A dramatic transformation by going to aftermarket shocks is an understatement. And you're correct in that it does look like a GNCC race quad from every angle. Plus, the remotes from the Elkas mounted on the rear rack support give it an even more trick and racey appearance. Me likey, likey.

I can't wait for the weekend. My luck, it'll rain like hell.

Interesting ... BusterW & 3TV ... you mention the aftermarket shocks lowered the Grizz ... 2 1/2" ?? ... that's a lot.

Could you adjust those shocks & get that 2 1/2" back in height ??

Reason I ask, where I ride I'm always hitting the bottom of the floorboards or underneath & I'm runn'in 27" tires. (Never measured my clearance, guess I might now)

Here's my reasons for wanting that 2 1/2 inches back .... on the Grizz guys, on the Grizz ... :sad2:

One time going up this creek bed work'in my way thru a rocky section ... the tires slipped & I came down on a boulder & busted all four of the floorbaord mounting bolt locations right out of the floorboards. Needless to say ... I'm not sure I for one want my Grizz any lower .... Ummm ... however, it might be real nice when do'in the mountain sidehill thing ... Jeez, I hate that !

Another point, went for a ride Sunday with some new riding guys. One guy had a Kawi 750 with 25" tires, & three guys (2 Grizzlies & 1 Arctic Cat) had 26" tires. We came to logs stacked to get over some really large down trees & several mud holes. The guy with the 25" was bottoming out all day long. The guys with the 26" did a little better. However, & I'm not bragg'in mind you, but we came to one mud hole, one of the Grizzly owners tried it & he was runn'in 26" XTR's & got stuck. (Not sure if he had it in low & if he had in diff lock either, but he had mud fly'in everywhere) .... once he got winched out, I tried it. I was runn'in 27" Dirt Tamers (Bighorn knockoff), put in low & diff lock ... walked right thru it (Yes, I did have to give some gas, but nothing like he did).

Granted, from 26 to 27 inch tires is only 1/2" more clearance ... but if I had been any lower ... I would of got stuck as well I think (as I smacked bottom pretty good when I went into the hole) ... let alone 2 1/2" lower.

Anyway, just curious about what you think the lower stance will give you besides a racy look & a lower center of gravity for "Haul'in" ??

If you can't get the 2 1/2" back in height with the shocks you bought, do those two companies make a different set of shocks to keep the stock height if a guy wants ??

They sure look good .... just not sure I personally would be happy with a "Lower" ride for what I do.

Thanks for the review BusterW & I enjoyed yours as well 3TV. Keep'em com'in ... makes the rest of us itch to use our plastic .... :laughing7:

Gunny, in short, yes you can get the height difference back by adjusting loosing an allen bolt on the collar and turning it. However, this will have an effect on your ride depending on just how much you adjust.

As a matter of fact, when you purchase from Elka, they interview you about your body weight, your weighted add-ons (like toolboxes, bumpers, etc.), tire diamter and the riding style you primarily do. They then set them up accordingly. They told me that because I'm primarily trail riding, they were going to drop it to lower the COG, which would in turn make for better handling. They asked if lowering it was OK and that if I needed them to, they could leave the quad at it's existing height. I told them to drop it.

I understand your questions if you do a lot of muddin' and wouldn't want to get stuck on the skids a lot. A very big concern the lowered stance would be if you do that a lot. I also do some sand bottom creek riding so it will be interesting to see if I sit on the skids more oftern now and have to winch out and I probably will. However, since that is such a minimal part of my riding, and with the other gains from the suspension, then that will be fine.

It's also worth noting about Elka that when you buy from them, if you go to a race event that they are at, they'll re-build your shocks on site at no charge, so they're always performing in tip-top shape.

Went for a quick ride tonight and gotta say, the suspension is the best mod I've made yet. I hit stuff at speed that I would normally bounced over and I just floated. When I got over it, I literally said out loud to myself, "WTF, you gotta be kiddin me".

The Elkas are absolutely amazing. If I were building a new quad from stock, now that would be the first mod I made. Ahhhh......sooky, sooky!!!!! :headbang:
