Not sure if it's true or not.
Is it true that the new polaris 850 can only have a 14" rim put on.. a 12" won't fit because of the break calibers???
if thats true... i think thats stupid.... cause half the good tires only come on 12" rim... man that really leaves you limited for tires if thats true
haha thats cool man it awsnered my question, thanks alot ... and that really sucks, looks like there not gonna be sportsmen XPs with outlaws on them, and i think you should get maxxis zillas insteadHello,
I just bought a sportman 850 XP LE and the salesman told me that you have to keep a 14" wheel cause of the brakes. Good news is the bigger brakes are great, bad news as Monster said you have a limited tires that will fit. Salesman recomended the ITP Mud-Lite XTR's. A friend of mine has them on a 07 Grizzly and he loves them. Only thing he said was you have get spacers for the rear cause and 11" Radial tire almost has a flat contact patch so it just rubs the sway bar on the rear. I would also like to point out that this salesman sold me this quad telling me that the 2 switchs on top of the headlight was for hand and thump warmers too. Witch in fact there for the lights on the rear and front brush gaurds. LOL so once he figured this out he had to install hand and thump warmers for free. So point is the only info I have is from a salesman that might not know everything he should. But from looking at mine I would say you would have a hard time getting a 12" wheel on this quad cause of the brakes. Hope this helps. Sorry for the long answer to your question MonsterGrizzly .
Thank's for filling us in Unclewill.
So, fill us in on your overall impressions of the Polaris.
And BTW, welcome to the site. :hello:
what is the top speed of the new 850 xp if you don;t mind me asking lolWell I looked at quads for about a year, first one I wanted was a Can-Am then it was a Grizzly then KingQuad. As a matter a fact this dealer had Polaris and Suzuki so I stoped in there one day to have a look at the KinkQuad. I walked right past the Sportsman XP, never even looked at it. Cause I have always heard there crap, Polaris has big motor problems everyone tells me. So anyways I ended up coming home and getting the wife to come take A look at this KingQuad. So we went up to the dealer and we walked in and first thing she said was look at that sportsman with the cool color. LOL I walked over and started looking at the quad and feel for it right then and there. So if it wasnt for my wife I could of been riding something else. My boss at work told be long time ago that hes not a Polaris fan, and he took a look at the quad when I brought it to work and said that Polaris really step up there game. He said that if he hadnt just got a new 09 Grizzly that he might of gotin a XP.
Now as for me and how I like my new quad. I think without a dought its the best quad for me. The only 1 thing I dont like about the Sportsman XP is theres no dry storage that you can reach from the drivers seat. Mine has the box up front and I can reach it so I'm good. Other then that you wont here me say one bad word about the Sportman XP. Its got TONS and TONS of power. I'm a bigger man, at 275 and this thing has no problem pulling the front wheels off the ground. I really think this thing rides better then my truck. Oh man it rides so good. The EPS is truly amazing and makes the slower trail riding where you have to do alot of slow turning really a treat to do. And to me now that the 2010 are out, and taking a look and see what all Polaris changed witch looks like the went from little stickers to marker reflectors on all the coners tells me that they know they have a great Sportman now. Thats just my 2 cents. Oh and thanks for the warm welcome guys.
No not at all. So far I have had it up to 115 k/m and I stoped there. LOL wow thats fast. My last quad was a Foreman 500 and its top was 75 k/m so I'll have to get used to it a little more and see how fast it goes. It was still pulling good at 115 but I think its stop around 120 or 125.what is the top speed of the new 850 xp if you don;t mind me asking lol
haha yea thats quite a difference from a honda to a polaris ...lol and yea thats fast,No not at all. So far I have had it up to 115 k/m and I stoped there. LOL wow thats fast. i wonder what the new outlander with 71hp doeslol
haha well thats good you like it... soo far the only thing i dont like is that you can only have a 14" rims on it, thats a bummer, oh well, enjoy the quadNot too sure. I pick mine up on Tuesday and Wensday took it to work to show it off. Thursday a co-worker brought his 08 Can-Am Outlander 800R out to let me ride it and as he said so I can feel the differance and then I would know for sure I got the wrong quad. Well I road it and it pulls hard thats for sure, I think it may have a little more low end pull but the XP sure pulls harder on top end too me. And as for the ride, lets just say it rides better then the Honda did, but no where close to the XP. So I came back after my ride with a BIG SMILE:thumbup: and did even have to say anything and he knew I like mine better. Now in all honesty he didnt get to ride mine so not too fair, but its my quad and I'm the one that has to pay for it so I'm the one that needs to like it. And I dont like it, I love it. lol
hey random question.. do you think that wheel spacers would allow you to put a 12" wheelNot too sure. I pick mine up on Tuesday and Wensday took it to work to show it off. sorry man... it's just ive been riding yamahas all my life and i want something with alot of power, and i can't decide i was 100% i wanted a gade but i went to a polaris dealer sat on a 550 xp and a 850 xp and i think there gnarly, i sat on a 500 gade back in 2007, im just not sure what i want... but if theres no way of putting a 12" on a xp it's out of the list i aint selling my outlaws... cause to get them things in canada is EXPENSIVE!.. paid like 1300$ for mine....I wouldn't sweat the 14" tire thing. All of the popular tire manufacturers are producing tires in 14". Believe it or not the UTV standard is moving toward 15".
Wheel spacers would probably help support a 12" wheel.
Unclewill, did you get the model with power steering?
hey random question.. do you think that wheel spacers would allow you to put a 12" wheel
man i think you should go with maxxis zilla... my dads got them on his grizz, and there really good!, ive heard 50/50 on xtr, ive heard soooooo many good things about maxxis zilla, and nothing bad about them, my friend brought a 650 with 27" xtr on a 14" rim, didn't do very well in the mud, to but unno know if oyu mud or not eitherI'm not sure MonsterGrizzly, if they did work you would have to spacer it out there way far. On mine the the brake caliper that will hit if anything. Witch is now that I think about it pretty far out there. But for me ITP makes the Mud Lite XTR's and I've seen them in action on a 700 Grizzly so thats good enought for me and the riding I do. Now my wifes uncle and I where talking and he said something that makes since but will take some time if your willing to wait. Anyways he was saying give ITP, Maxxis and some of the other ATV tire companys a chance they will start making more options for the 14" will. I think ITP sells a wheel and tire package in 14". One good think about 14" wheels is there alot less tire flex. Not much different then with cars now a days.
Yes Sir, OMG I love this quad. I just got home from riding with my brother-inlaw and sister-inlaw. We ended up going round trip about 48k. We got back and everyone else was tired and ready to get off, NOT ME. lol That thing rides so smooth and the EPS is awesome. We were in some serious hills going down and the engine brake (not sure what they call it) is sweet. I came down all the hill into a creek bottom, the trail was almost 2 miles and never hit the brake once. Both the other quads were on there brakes all the way. One was a honda Foreman 300 the other was a Bombardia 500. Both older quads yes, but the point is Polaris really did an awesome job biulding this machine. I know on mine if HIGH gear is too fast (5K) going down the shift to LOW and its only 2K now. Only way it will go faster is if you give it some throttle or all 4 tires lose grip. To me very impressive.I wouldn't sweat the 14" tire thing. All of the popular tire manufacturers are producing tires in 14". Believe it or not the UTV standard is moving toward 15".
