OK. I know this is going to start some brand wars. But, just want some honest opinions on what 400-650CC 4x4 atv is best bargain. I want to build a decent mudder. Some of my top runners on my list are:

Bruteforce 650 IRS
Grizzly 450 IRS
Grizzly 550 IRS (a little pricey)
Can Am 500 HO (pricey)

I would say go with a Grizzly 700:beer"

I love my 450 and all but its just not ballsy enough. I guess it depends on you. Do you want power? What do you want. I ride with outlander 400 and an outlander 800....they can both smoke me like nothing....but lets get in the trails and see what happens....they cant keep up in the trails. Not to mention they have had their share of mechanical issues when I have had none.

Brian, my first and formost recommendation will be to consider a larger bored quad. Why? Because you want to mud and equally important, you can get last years big bore quad for about the same or maybe less than you can a current model year medium bore.

Now, I'll point out a couple other things. If you are going for mud, you might steer toward a quad that has a selectable locker. That puts Can-Am out. Another note, you will want to see which one offers the best CVT venting. You will obviously be snorkeling, but some are easier than others.

Price to value, I'd have to point at the Brute. Again I encourage you to see how cheap you can get a BF750. Reliability and comfort, I'd point at the Grizzly. If you are going to dish out the money for the 550, I'd go ahead and consider the 700. I just have the feeling that dealing with mud you will want the extra power sooner or later. Other wise, the Grizz 450 is a proven, trustworthy quad.

I own a Can-Am Outlander 800R and I love it, but it wouldn't have been my choice quad for a mudder. Hope that helps some. Keep us posted. I love new quads, even if they aren't mine!

Thanks for the input so far. I was initially leaning towards the Brute Force based on power for the buck. The 650i is a great price deal and I have seen them in action and have great power. Do they have Diff Lock. I think I am definitely wanting DIFF LOCK.

As a Grizzly owner I will have to side with BATTLEGUN and recommend going withthe Brute Force also. You will have plent of power to turn larger tires in the thickest of mud. You will also find that the Kawasaki parts are some the industries most economically priced. For a mudder, this should mean a lot.

The Vtwin in the the Kawie machines are very durable. Probably rated the best in the industry. They also respond well to cheap performance modifications.

Downside to the Kawies, they have some of the worst steering geometry in the industry. But everything about the Brute is rock solid.

OK, looks like the Brute Force 750i may be the choice then. One more question. Does anyone make a modification for the Diff Lock Lever. Not to keen on having to hold a lever in all the time to have diff lock.
