Team FMF Suzuki Off Road Scores Again at Loretta Lynn’s GNCC
Brea, Calif. (April 29, 2008) ─ Round 5 of the 2008 GNCC series is in the books and once again Team FMF Suzuki Off Road found success in the hills of Tennessee. Sophomore sensation Josh Strang pushed his RM-Z450 EFI to the runner-up spot for the second race in a row. Despite starting third from last, the 20-year-old Australian put on a charge and sliced through the pack to fight his way into second. From that point on Josh rode strong and steady and finished uncontested in second place. Strang’s second podium of the season moved him up to fifth in GNCC points.
Charlie Mullins grabbed the holeshot with his RM 250 and shuffled back and forth in the top four for the first couple of laps. Mullins, who won round two, was looking to score another overall victory, but today secured another podium and brought the two-stroke home for third to maintain his lock on second in the GNCC points chase.
Paul Whibbley gated second from last and struggled with arm pump for the first half of the race. After the second gas stop Whib’s put the hammer down on the RM-Z450 EFI and charged to the front. At one point he had passed his way to fifth, but a lapper blocked his line on a hill and he eventually settled for sixth overall. Whibbley currently holds the third spot in the GNCC Championship hunt.
Jimmy Jarrett had a great start on his RM250 but crashed on the opening lap and fell back to the back of the field. He rode hard and took a lot of chances to make his way to ninth before time ran out.
After 5 rounds, all four team riders are in the top six in points for the GNCC championship. Out of 15 possible podium places in five races, Team FMF Suzuki has taken seven podium finishes and has had one or more riders on the podium in every round.
All four team riders will compete in the OMA Series this coming weekend and then return to the GNCC Series.
