STRAPPED!

What's the best way to secure your quad when hauling it from point a to point b? I've had trouble with this issue. It always seems to come loose! I thought I knew how to tie stuff down, am I missing something here?

Ratchet straps are key. They don't tend to loosen up. As well, avoid strapping down to your racks. As the bike boucnes during transport it will cause it too lossen up. What are you using to transport your quad? trailer or truck?

Always tie down to the frame at the lowest point possible and then to a low point on the trailer/truckbed. The flatter the angle the more secure it will stay. If you are on a trailer do this at all four corners and it won't move.

In my truck, The front of the quad is pushed tight against the forward part of my truck bed. Then I take a strap and it around the rear tires and off to the eye hooks that are set low on the bed of my truck. I get picks if you need.
I use a 6.5'x12' trailer. I use rachet straps on four corners BUT I was hooking to the racks. I will try hooking the frame and see what happens.

I used to use the winch to crank it down, but I've heard that takes its toll on the winch due to the jarring around.

Thanks for the advice. :eek:ccasion14:

Sounds good! let me know how it works out!
Yep. I anchor mine to all 4 poinst of the frame with ratchet straps.

Might be stupid to say, but make sure to put it into park. I had strapped my quad in but only did the rear straps which I hook next to the receiver. Hauling it home one day I began to go up a hill and hear the thing hit the tailgate and when I stopped, it then rolled and I heard the winch hook just tap the rear window. Luckily it didn't go through. I found out that I had left the quad in low gear after putting it up the ramps, I also had the parking brake on but it didn't do much I guess. Now I always slam the thing into park to make sure.
Most generaly if you can get a strap on the front and the rear no matter if its two or four a fourty five degree angle is ideal.

Man, that could have sucked bad! I'm glad it didn't go that way though.
I use the louisiana gaurd dog which you dont need straps for and can still tow a trailer. I don't like how it sits on the tailgate but I can fix that if I want to.

Bull I like that set up. i have seen it before but never on anyones bike. Is it real solid?
Honda recommends 4 corners from the racks. It's how I've always done it and it seems to work for me.

Seems to be. I've hit the brakes pretty hard and driven on some rough terrain and it might move a few inches but I am really confident it will not move enough to worry me. I am going to make another piece that allows the Grizz to sit in the bed all the way but so far I always end up hauling other stuff in front of it. I also like the fact I can lock it down to help with security.
bull700 how old is yours? The onlyreason I ask is that I have one and it has a tension nut on the part that goes into the receiver hitch and once you tighten it it become rock solid. I agree with the tailgate thing on my old quad it had a solid rear axle and the ball was further back. The only thing mine has ever done was turn the front wheels. If you want to see something real cool go to La guard dog website and look at the rack and ramp. I might have to get one.
