Sunday I went for my first snow ride of the year. Our clubs trail administrator and I went out to cut some downed trees off of our trail system. Upon arrival at the tree we were at enough elevation for there tobe a dusting on the ground. Despite telling my wife "I'll be right back", we headed up into the hills for deeper snow. Once at the height of our trail system there was 3-4" of snow. After three hours of slipping sliding and laughing my heated grips quit (again) and it was time to head home. Yesterday we got three inches of snow in town and my thoughts have been on nothing but another ride. I'm going to find someone who wants a quick ride before the family shows up for Thanksgiving and head out. If this year keeps on like this, it could be time for me to get tracks! Snow riding is the best!

Man oh man I wish we were there to ride in fresh powder with ya. My wife and I love to ride the snow. I am very partial to mud and she to water but we both love the snow. My wife worked in Dover NH some time ago.

While it won't be enough to groom, we're supposed to get 6-12" Sunday night. I spent the day getting the plow on my truck serviced. If you guys come north, come up once the trails are groomed. The trails that you go 15-20MPH on in summer turn into 4 wheel drifts at 45-50. Another benefit once you get 2-3' of snow is that when you go off the trail at that speed you sink in and stop before you hit stuff...usually. While I like the speed tires give you, the guys with tracks on thier ATVs go places the sleds don't even dare. Putting tracks on makes your machine a snowmobile in the eyes of the state, so all trails are open to them. Those of us with tires must know where it is legal. Luckily, and through our clubs work with the local snowmobile club, our trails are legal! I'll post up when we start grooming.

We now have almost three feet of snow up here. I've been so busy plowing I haven't even ridden my wheeler in a week, that's unheard of for me. Winter grooming has begun but some trails have not even been touched yet. White Mountain ATV Club and Mount Moosilauke ATV Club are trying to put together a weekend ride over the winter. We are working with the New Hampshire BOT to get permission to run a section of trail through Franconia Notch that is closed to us. They usually let us ride it one day per year. If we can pull this off there will be well over 100 miles of guided trail rides through the White Mountains on this weekend. When we get the date from the State I will post the ride. If you never winter rode this will be an event not to miss. There will be plenty of lodging in the Lincoln-Woodstock NH area. Ride to food and gas. While the section of trail we need a permit for is small, the scenery is breath taking. Franconia Notch is where the famous Old Man of The Mountain looked out over the notch until 2002. Last year over 150 riders made the trip.

If the whole ride was on state land we would get a waiver, but we will be crossingmany landowners land as well. So, yes registration will be required. That allows the states $2m liabilty policy to cover land owners. I think it is $73 non-resident. For the amount of winter riding up here alone, it would be worth it. I usually try to put a ride together the week before as well to check signs and trail conditions and such. Koko if you would like to sample the trails some time I could hook you up with the wife's rancher. that way you would know it's worth it! Groomed trails in winter rule :headbang:

Thank you for the offer. There's no doubt in my mind the trails are worth it! I'm hoping to ride in ME and NH a lot this year. Especially now with testing products, I need to pack on the miles...and that's a good thing! :toothy10:

The weekend of February 23-24 has been picked for the "Notch Ride". At this point it looks like Saturday will be the permitted day for the trip through the notch. The Notch ride permit looks like it is coming with new rules by NH BOT. No riding double unless you are on a two-up machine, hemets must be worn and no two wheel drives. The Notch ride is put on by White Mountain ATV Club and benefits The New Hampshire Heart Association. Sundays ride is put on by my club and will be much more unofficial. I could not get permission for an orginized ride through the White Mountain National Forest so it won't be orginized. No fee, only regular NH laws and several miles of awsome snow riding. Sometimes lawmakers shoot themselves in the foot for our benefit, this is one of those times. Come on up for a great ride! Lodging is available in the Lincoln-Woodstock NH area. This will be the starting point for the rides.
