When I was growing up, a friend had a 2wd Polaris (don't remember the model). When it would snow, he would put on sand (paddle) tires. This thing was unbelievable in the snow with these tires. Has anyone else ever tried this?

For the record, when I was growing up, we used to get fair amounts of snow unlike today where 6 inches is considered a lot.

I have not tried it myself but i sold a set of paddles to a friend who put them on a 400ex just for snow and said they work great. They are molded paddles (not skat-trak). They sucked in the sand so i got rid of them.

There are days when I wish I had a sport quad so I could experiment with things like that. This quad, and sounds like some others have figured out that paddle tires make a sport quad go like a sled in the snow.

Battlegun .... I use to do this with my Banshee ... and it worked REAL well .... :cheer: :cheer: .... if the snow was "PACKED" ..... if it was loose or powder ... you could hang it up, cause you're go'in down dude !!!!

HOWEVER, if the snow wsa packed, say on a groomed snowmobile trail ... Holy Mackerel ... you could fly !!! :icon_thumleft: and throw some serious snow clods !!! ;;t;;

I use to race 600's with my 350 & beat'em climb'in their hill .... of course, my 350 was slightly worked over ... Hee ! Hee ! Hee ! .... :evil6:

And, they use to have snowmobile drages up where I ride .... I even beat a few sleds do'in that ......

But it HAD to be packed, hard snow .... otherwise ... it was better to run down to the sand dunes ....

Interesting report Gunny. I guess we did ok because our snowfall, even when I was a young buck, would never really hold up to your opinion of snow. A foot of snow was the norm. A blizzard consisted of 3 to 5 feet. Nowadays, if we would get 6" of snow I'd be happy as all get out.

So, averaging a foot of snow per snowfall, it didn't need to be packed for this quad to rip it up.

I myself hate the cold. But watching Gunny run around the Utah mountainside makes me appreciate the white stuff.

I offered to be his prodigal son, but he wouldn't accept.

Let me add a new twist. Has anyone ever used sand/paddle tires in the soup? Stands to reason in my mind that they would do pretty well in loose mud anyway. :dontknow:
