I've been thinking often that remote for the winch would be nice . Has anybody used a remote and do they make a cordless one ? What are your thoughts on any kind of remote if available . ? . My winch is a 25 Warn .

Trapper-D .... I bought a Gorilla wired remote off E-Bay for my Warn winch ... works great.

I think all the remotes they sell now are wireless. My neighbor has a wireless remote and the only complaint he has, when he takes his finger off the switch ... the winch still keeps taking in line for a bit. So ya have to be careful you don't break something.

If nothing else, they're real handy to rewind the cable after a trip. And I use mine to winch logs off trails & such.

Ya might as well get one, cause you'll like it once ya have it. :eek:ccasion14:

LOL Gunny . Damn it figgers it's one of those must haves that I must have . When you say with the wireless that they continue to reel in after taking your finger off the switch . Does it continue reeling for feet or just inches . ?

I think a wired remote is alright and more useful than none but wireless would be even better because then I wouldn't have to walk back through a wet slush hole etc when I could just make the initial one trip and bring the bike to me winching all the way although I have been in a few places where I had to give her some gas to help the winch out . LOL

Dang methinks that's another product the torture crew could test out for us . LOL .

This site can sure be an expensive place to hang out with all the goodies they know about but it can sure save you some too if product does not get the stamp of approval .

Hmm lets see . I now need a steering damper at 400-500 bucks , synthetic rope and fairlead for around a 100 bucks , a helmet cam at 200-600 bucks and thats just the beginning . LOL

Thanks for your input Gunny . I hope others have some too .

I think I'll have to start having a serious look at them . Sure would be a handy mod .

Thanks . When I get one I''ll return in like with my thoughts too .

I'm going to start by getting the synthetic rope and the fairlead for it . This will tie in next . LOL Practical methinks .

I'm concerned about the fact that his reels in after shutting it down. What brand winch is he running.

A Harbor Freight special. He's think'in it's the miil-seconds for the signal to get to the box & the box to relay it to the winch, & then the winch motor to slow down or stop.

It's not a lot ... but he says he has to pass attention. And I've never talked to anyone with any other brand winch to see how their wireless remote works.

Hmmm, Harbor Freight may be the problem as they don't sell the best of electrical products. GrizzlyWizard has a Warn 3.0 with a wireless remote. Maybe he'll chime in at some point and let us know if there is any delay in his stopping once he releases the button.

I have the Warn 3.0 XT with the wireless remote. When winding or unwinding, it has a slight delay of about 2 seconds when you release the button. It isn't a big deal, and the wireless is well worth it in my opinion.

As for winch brands, they are all good, just some are more expensive that others.

I ve got a warn 2500 w/ wireless remote. like grizz said the delay is only a second or 2. no real issue as far as i m concerned. only thing i see is cinching up after use. i just leave a couple inches of slack then use the switch on the handle bar.
I m really happy w/ mine!

MAN that would suck if you got stuck in water or mud or something... and you tripped, or you foot got caught and mud and you fell or something and you dropped your remote and lost it... lol

Yeah it doesn t replace the original switch that comes w/ the winch. Altough it would still suck if u lose it cuz, even though u don t have 2 buy a whole new set up, replacing that remote switch will b a little pricey. It comes w/a holder that u can clamp onto ur handlebar or wherever u want. my grizzly has roled down a hill & flipped end over end & that little thing was still holding it tight. :beer"

Mos of the remote winches retain the standard rocker switch as backup.
lol i know that.. i just meant them things cost money... it would suck if you had to go buy a new one cause you lost yours in the mud or water... lol

Well, FWIW, I haven't used my remote at all other than playing with it. Of course it's the wired remote that came stock on my quad, but I just find it easier to use the rocker switch vs hooking up the remote. I'm sure there are some situations that the remote would be beneficial though. And if the remote were located somewhere more handy it might be a different story altogether. I guess my point is to keep that in mind when choosing your mounting location.
