Lets get some ideas going about garage mods. Post a picture of your latest (or greatest) garage mod.

Here is a garage mod that I did just today, ... a tire rack!

Trying to keep this thread alive. Come on folks. Lets see some of your garage mods, I'm sure you've got some good ones. Here are a couple of my latest garage mods ... a used tire changing machine that I picked up recently. And the most time consuming "mod" so far, ... the oil stains on the floor.

3TV, I wouldn't sweat the oil on the floor too much. It's a garage...It kind of adds character. Reminds people that they are indeed in a garage, in which they should act respectable. :beer"

BTW...Nice tire machine! Everyone needs one of those!

Only Phil would have his own tire machine in his garage.

Hey 3TV,

My dad is in the tire business and according to him that's a pretty nice tire machine ya got there. He said that must have cost you a pretty penny.

Since this one is used it was pennies on the dollar compared to what a new one would have cost. It is six years old, and needs to have the plastic rim clamps and the rubber pad on the side of the machine that the bead breaker presses against replaced, but those parts are cheap.

It has different rim clamp attachments that allow it to change tires for rims anywhere from 8" diameter to 22" diameter. I can change the ATV tires, motorcycle tires, and even the Jeep, truck, or car tires if I want to. I didn't really need this thing, but they were practically giving it away, so I snagged it.

What kind of air source does that puppy require?

It doesn't take much of an air source at all. The air only clamps the rim and holds it clamped, and is needed for the bead breaker tool. It isn't a continuous use thing like an air drill, etc.

Hey 3TV ... I'll trade ya my three big screw drivers & soap bottle for that tire changer ... What'da say ?? Deal ?? .... That is WAY NICE dude !!!

Here's a couple of my latest aquired shop items.
1) I made the welding table ... it has saved the back & the knees a ton. Oh yeah, I remove the vaccum when I'm weld'in or grind'in.

2) Got the drill press at Harbor Freight. So far, it's worked real well. I've drilled 1/2 inch plate with no problem. Has a rotating head, the head can be moved back & forth for shallow or deep items, & the drill plate/table rotates too. And sometimes all these moving parts can be a bugger to get back to level ... Savvy ??

3) Just got the Lincoln 180 welder. Been using a stick forever. Then a friend let me borrow his MIG for a little over a year. Well, I got spoiled !!!

4) And last, a friend of mine was moving & asked if I could use this rolling tool/parts cart ?? ... Like .... HELL YEAH !!!

I need a bigger garage ... cause I'd like a shop press .... & a way nice tire changer like 3TV's.

Later ...

Ok... I suppose I'll have to go out and take some pics... It's a new garage so I don't have much in it yet... (beside all the 4wheelers...) but i did run air hose in the walls when it was built so I could have remote air coils... I also installed a tire changer... but mine is the cheap kind that you have to bolt to the floor. I added extra bolts with their heads cut off so I can use them to fill the anchor holes to make it all flush like and keep the dirt out when it's put away... I've been pretty lazy this year though... I haven't been working on my garage like I should have been. Ok... so maybe it was more of the "let's go riding every weekend instead of working on the garage variety" instead of lazy... I still need to build my work bench and mount the board to hang my tools on...

Quick question to you guys... Should I, or should I not build a small bar in the corner? Just something to seat about 3 stools... Or should I use that space to extend the bench all the way to the wall? (it's a 24' back wall, but 4 feet of it on the right side is reserved for my air compressor.)

Nice welder Gunny, and I like the cart thing. All I have is a stick welder that I'm not very good at using. I've got a drill press that I must confess I'm not very good at using either. I've owned the same drill press for 15 years now, and right after I first got it I was using it to drill a hole in a plate of steel. The drill bit grabbed the plate and spun it around, and it slapped the back of my left hand, right across the back of my first knuckle. I didn't think too much about it because it didn't hurt at all, but then I got to looking at my hand and noticed that the skin on the back of my knuckle had a small line across it. I looked at it closer and bent my finger as I was looking at it, and the skin on each side of the line pulled away so that I was looking into a deep surgical like wound. I also got to see the two separate ends of the extensor tendon go their own ways as I bent my finger and the extensor tendon came apart because it too had been sliced in two. And right about then blood started flowing everywhere. Oops!

Three hours in the ER with a plastic surgeon later, and all was good again. Be sure to clamp down the steel on that drill press Gunny.

Hebs,
I vote for the bar and bar stools. Then put a small fridge in the garage, like they have in college dormatories.

I've already got a coke fridge like you see in stores. (the ones that have a clear glass door so you can see all of it's contents.)

The more I think about it, the more I want that lil bar... Hmmm...

Oh and Gunny... I have seen what a guy can do with a few cold ones after a welder.... er....
