Hi every one, Im new to the forum but not that new to ATVs. I have owned a 99 Big Bear 350 2x4 for a while now and it has been an awesome very reliable machine.
I just bought me a new 08 Grizzly 700 EPS. (no I am not getting rid of the BigBear).
After reading an ATVtorture article on the PIAA 510 ATP lights I bought them. http://www.piaa.com/Powersports/lamps.html
However, before I install them I have a question.
The lights state a wattage of "Bulb TypeH3 35W= 60W " .

The ATVtorture article didn't state any problems with powering the lights but I was wondering if any utility riders out there have had any charging or powering problems while running these lights or a light with similar output.
I asked Yamaha service (locally) and they stated "they should work...."

UPDATE: I called PIAA. They were very prompt and gave me the following formula for figuring out the amperage draw of the lights. They are 35w lights and there are 2 of them so 35x2=70. 70w divided by 12 volts = 5.83. That is the amperage draw that these lights will have.

Now does anyone know how many amperes the stator or alternator int he 08 Griz will handle?

I don't bring resolution to you're question, but I wanted to welcome you to the site. I too wondered the same thing your pondering but for my 660. I eventually just accepted that they would work. LOL.

Grizzlywizard is the man for this answer but he's been really busy lately working a project. Hope you find an answer soon.

The PIAA lights actually only draw 4 Amps DC. The Yamaha Grizzly stator is rated for 17 Amps continuous I think. The PIAA 510 ATP's will not give you any charging problems or current overload issues. I have actually ran the 510's along with the 2" HID and the high beams on with not adverse affects.

The lights are very nice.
They put out about the same amount of light as the Grizz's high beams, which is quite good.
The only problem I have is that with the PIAA universal bracket you can adjust the lights vertically but not horizontally.
For me the high beams reach straight out adequately for my riding style so I would like to turn the PIAAs to the left and right of my high beam pattern to make more of a broad pattern allowing me to see more of the terrain off to the sides.

PIAA makes better brackets such as the L-Bracket and the Sports Bracket that appear to allow the lamps to be adjusted horizontally.

I opted for the cheaper bracket because I have the new Warn front bumber on order and when it is installed I will mount the lights on the bumper.
