Hey I'm new here and I have bought the wife a 06 Polaris Hawkeye and it has a torn right rear inner cv boot I got a replacement kit in and this is my first time meesing with something like this. My question is how do you get the axle out of the diff? I'm unsure so I figured I'd ask before I tore something else up. Thanks in advance for your help. Chase

Welcome to the site. Hopefully someone who had had a little experience on this machine will chime in.
Welcome to the site and congrats on the wife's quad. I don't have any experience with this machine so I"m not going to be any real help.

My recommendation to you; go on Ebay, and look up Midwest Manuals to see if he has a service manual for your quad. He is fair priced and this is a must have item if you plan on doing all of your repairs and maintenance.
Allow me to assist the best I can with no experience whatsoever with this quad.

In looking at the parts diagram, and since you said a right rear boot is damaged, the attached image should help. I've marked and labeled the items that it appears you must remove for the bearing carrier to come off and the axle to come out. If it was left rear, you would have some brake parts to remove as well but for the right side, it doesn't look as if there are any brake parts.

Now, there is a chance that if you only remove the top or bottom nut and bolt of the bearing carrier, that you could get it to swing out of your way enough to pull the shaft out. Hard to say though if the swivel in the shaft has enough swivel for that to happen or not. I'm doubting it, but it is possible. If I were to guess, I would say pulling the bottom bolt and swivelling upwards has the best chance. But, since it is only one bolt extra, I would yank them both for simplicity.

I hope that helps.

Thanks

thanks Buster I've got as far as what the diagram shows I have the axle out of the carrier but I can't get it out of the rear diff. I have read it just takes some good tugs but I haven't tried that yet. I haven't seen any kind of keeper on it so maybe I just have to snatch it out. Let me know if you come up with anything else. Thanks alot Chase
I have heard that they are hard to get out sometimes also. Some say the had to literally beat them out.
The axle should have some sort of circlip around it holding it into the housing. The last one I did on a Yamaha, I had to jerk like hell to get it to snap out but it came.

Word to the wise: Although the best position to do this is kind of sitting on the ground and having the axle aiming between your legs so you can get a good grip and good yank on it, this is also the worst position unless you're wearing a cup or plate of steel in your crotch. Be careful. :)

That made me break out into a cold sweat thinking about it! :blah:
