Well like it says, I received my ropes today. I received a 50' 3/16" winch line and a 25' 3/16" extension rope. The quality and craftmanship are exceptional. The quality of the components are top notch. The eyes are stainless steel rather than galvanized steel. The rock guards fit the rope and are not oversized and bulky. The splice is done exactly as specified by the rope manufacturer. I have competitors ropes in use right now, but the quality just does not compare with these.

I can say that I will never own another winch with anything other than rope. The ease of use and safety of rope vs. steel cable makes this an easy decision. Don't worry about strength, I have heavily loaded my ropes many times with no signs of deterioration.

Winchline gets a big :icon_thumleft: from me.

What else is there to be sold on? Lighter, safer, stronger...

My favorite part is no more metal splinters when winding the rope back up. No to mention my steel cable broke while snowplowing 3 years ago...twice. I replaced it with a rope and have not had an issue since.

Not sold on stronger.
One day my friend, you may just get that nut open and see that the rope is the way of the future. It is currently mandated in many of the big off roading events. :icon_rr:

That's kind of the take I had on it. If it's good enough to yank a Jeep, it's gotta be able to pull my quad. I can honestly say though, I've only had to winch up one hill...in WV..stupid trail 94.

If I had a choice of steel line snapping or rope snapping, I would take the rope even if it was supposedly less strong.

So you guys are going to tell me that a fabric, which is subject to impregnation of dirt even when not in use, which WILL eventually weaken that fabric (this is the same reason rock climers, rapellist, and Military will not use the same rope more than a couple times after hard and dirty use) is a stronger option when we constantly run these vehicles in mud, snow, ice, dust, thus subjecting these fabrics to these elements on a much larger scale.

This is where I'm not sold. Sure the rope may be stronger the first time or two, BUT what proof do you have that it has the same "durable" lifespan. In other words, is it stronger longer or only stronger for 1/2 the usable life of cable?

Again, hands down to safety, and being that these winches and lines are probably not saving anyone's life, I think the safer choice is probably the most intelligent, but that doesn't mean I believe it is strongest for the longest.

For me it comes down to the eyelet where you place the hook. I broke my steel cable twice. In one winter, the rope is still holding up for the past 3 seasons with no breakage. You do bring up great points.

When you say three seasons, is that three years or 3/4 of a year? Three years of no breakage with normal use would be impressive and more conviencing.

3 winters...and or 3 years. The first year I plowed with my grizz (2005) after breaking the cable I bought an 50ft syn rope for spring, summer, and fall riding. I purchased and 8ft rope for plowing in the winters (which also gets mixed in with riding and mud). I have not had a failure on either rope yet for the past 3 years. :icon_thumleft:
