My god you've got some money in clutches. And you were back to the stock secondary? So, you had your STM secondary just sitting or did you sell it?
It's a shame you didn't go with Adam at airdam originally with teh STM and cvtech. he could have gotten you dialed in just how you want it and saved a lot of time and money.
I'm like you, I don't like that spacer thing either!!!
Let us know how it works out though.
B
Yup, I've got some money tied up in clutches & clutch parts, but now no one BS me about what works or what's just so much talk ... but maybe MY situation is differrent than others, who knows. (And I did talk to Adam at Airdam ... twice)
I'm still swapping between the stock driven & the STM one. But if I can't find a stiffer spring than the Gold one, ..... well ........ let me talk to EPI first & see what they say after I explain what I need. I THINK I would prefer the STM driven, but after this week long trip to "Steep Country Utah" I'm am STILL grinn'in from ear to ear. OMG that QSC clutch is awesome !!! And the spacer never gave me any problems & we did several water crossings & a few deep mud holes. I just need to trim my floorboard a tad more to make it a little easier to remove the clutch cover W/O taking the floorboard off. (Which I can do now) ....... and I want to get some longer bolts so I can reuse the stock rubber bolt seal setup. We'll see.
OK, let me tell you about the CVTech clutch ... and maybe this is just me, but I'm not so sure that's the way to go now. Here's my story.
After I installed the CVTech, I noticed my clutch cover would get very warm to HOT. I also noticed that everytime I took the clutch cover off, there would be like oily rubber "dust in it. (For lack of a better word) ... I had also installed a few parts from a "SnorkleYour ATV" kit on my CVT exhaust to include an end that had a waterproof screen on it ... but I could not see it cause it was up under my right fender.
The last few rides it seemed like my clutch cover was getting really HOT !! ... So on day two of the trip, I mention this to my brother & he says, maybe it's the snorkel ? ....... We get back to camp & at idle, I can feel air coming out of his stock CVT exhaust ....... we check mine ..... nothing ..... I rev the bike up ..... still nothing ??
So I remove the snorkle & check the end ....... SHIT !!! It's full of that "Rubber Dust" & belt cord shavings !!!
I restart the bike & there's excellent air flow out of my CVT exhaust ..... so I left the snorkle off the rest of the trip & my clutch cover NEVER got more than warm again.
Now, I was told by a few people that the CVTech slips the belt ... always ...... and now ..... I totally believe that.
One more thing about the CVTech ... I never could get shift out above 6400 to 6500 rpms. One time I think I hit 6800 rpms, but I could never repeat that. I even tried lighter & lighter weight setups. (And I explained my riding style & evelations when I ordered the clutch)
With the QSC clutch, after telling Adam my riding style & evelations, I hit 7100 rpms without having to change a thing ... AT 10,876 FEET !!! ......... So am I happy ?? ....... Can you say, ... "HELL YEAH !!!"
Next on the agenda is to work the STM driven .... I just need to talk to EPI & see if I can get a spring that matches the spring rate for the spring QSC sent me.
So more to follow ........
