Huckleberry Mountain Horse Trail, south of Magazine, totals more than 34 miles and consists of two loops -- the Huckleberry Mountain loop (22.4 miles) and the Apple Loop (11.9 miles). The trail has five main access points, one of which is the Sorghum Camp. This campground has 15 developed sites with centrally located vault toilets, but no electricity or water. The trail rates mild to rough, with deep winding valleys surrounded by rugged mountain bluffs giving way to clear mountain streams. A 5.3-mile section of the Huckleberry loop is the most rugged, crossing Shoal Creek half a dozen times. The creek is passable most of the year. Much of the trail consists of old forest roads that have some rocky areas but many scenic qualities.

To reach the trail from Ark. 22, turn south on Sorghum Hollow Road (gravel), continue 4.7 miles and turn left into the Sorghum Campground, which also has day-use parking. There is a day-use charge of $3 and camping is $5 per night. For more information, contact the Magazine Ranger District at (479) 963-3076.
