I wanted to see if any others here have put any type of heat wrap on their exhaust system. I just installed "Heat Wrap" by Heat Shield Products. I noticed right away that the temp around the pipe was reduced. Of course I still can't ride my quad so I can't get a good test in yet.

Also, for those that have used, was there any performance gain. I can't imagine it would be seat of the pants gain, but they do claim an increase. I installed this for the temp control reasons only but any other gains would surely be welcomed. :laughing7:

Man, anything to reduce feelable heat is good to me. Where did you get this and how much was it? If it drops heat that much, I want some. How much of the head pipe can you wrap with it? Most of it if you wanted?

Re: HEAT WRAPPED...

It will help drastically to control heat. It is a great add for the poor heat shield system of the Grizzly 660 models. The down site is that it will drastically accelerate the corrosion process of the header pipe if you ever get it muddy.

It does add some performance benefits by insulating the exhaust head pipe and allowing the hot exhaust gases to flow faster and more efficiently. Basically i is a scavenging effect.

I'd say if your aren't going in to be doing any water crossings or mud then try it. I had considered it but it would require a lot of effort keeping it maintained all of the time.

Re: HEAT WRAPPED...

Well, I could have wrapped the entire pipe from muffler to head, but I didn't want to fight the heat shield on the header next to the head so I stopped there. It is rated at 1200 degrees constant and 2000 degrees intermintent. I can't report how much of a difference it makes riding yet. :cussing: I can't remember the name of the place I purchased from. Never heard of them before but they had the lowest price of $20ish. I seen it other places for upwards of $50. I'll look in my email when I get home and repost with the vendors name.

As far as mud, nope. Water, very little. I'll say it again, water and mud are not my gig. I know you can't help but get in it sometimes though so I appreciate those words of wisdom there GW.

Once I get my quad together again :cussing: I'll give a ride report on the heat shield.
