while i was replacing a front outer cv boot, i noticed that the cv joint was showing visual evidence of severe heat being transferred from the balls to the outer assembly.
i became aware of the torn boot within a few miles of it happening, and rode it home very easily. i probably lost less than 5% of the grease, if that. once home, i pumped the boot full of grease with a needle fitting and attempted to temporarily repair the cut with black RTV, but it was too large of a tear. only drove it up the street and back to see if the repair would hold, before replacing the boot. i'm wondering if maybe the boot wasn't adequately full from the factory? anyone ever experienced this before?
