Everyone needs to check thier upper and lower a arm nuts. There are reports of these nuts stripping out and it could get you hurt if you have an accident at speed. It is recommended that you remove the nut and inspect the nut threads and the arm threads before you reinstall. I know it sounds like a pain, but I have seen quite a few people say the found the same problem. I haven't checked mine as of yet, but will before my next ride. Hope this helps everyone.

I had the same problem with mine. The castle nut backs off against the cotter pin. After a little while this excess play wears out the upper and lower ball joints requiring repair and replacement.

Good thing with mine was, I was able to get the issue covered under warranty. Yamaha tried giving me a hard time about is. They claim that is normal wear and tear. I hardly think so. I fought back, and they finally covered the warranty claim.

but dont they assemble that stuff at the dealer. or is that just the plastic and cosmetics(sp).
The way I understand it, at least for yami, is that they (the dealer) only bring the quad to life. The quads are shipped in large crates with tires deflated, handle bars flat, and completely dry. The dealer unpacks them and gets them ready for riding. Possibly going over everything to ensure it is still tight.

That isn't fact though. Just my assumption after years of poking around the dealerships.

I've seen four grizzlies lose the bottom castle nut on the lower control arm. They have all had a couple thousand miles on them at least. When they come apart it usually takes the inner c/v with it. One let go right in front of me on a smooth trail. The owner almost went over the bars. Ugly.

Yep, should be a part of the pre-ride maintenance / inspection. I know it is form mine. However, you can tell by riding it when it is loose.

That s Just Great ! Is this a problem w/ a certain yr model or is it random through out? I thought that s what the cotter pin was 4 so the #@%$^ nut can t back off!!! My machine will b up in the air 2morrow so I can check this out. R the torque specs in the owners manual or does any1 know what they r. Sounds like over torquing could b the problem. Too much torque can stretch the treads weakening them. Whatever the reason. THAT S NOT RITE!!!::none::

Couldn t help myself I had 2 go get my manual & check it out. there s no torque spec, in the manual, 4 that so I guess u gotta get a hold of Yamaha or a dealer s service dept. I also had 2 take a peek at the ball joints. All I could really tell rite now is the kotter pins have play in them & the nuts don t seem 2 pressing on em. I ll have a better look 2morrow in the sunlight! BTW thanx 4 the info MaxMud ! U could b keeping someone from having a very bad day!!!;)

As far as specs and manuals; if you are going to check out a shop manual, I recommend the clymer brand. These manuals are awesome with a lot of color diagrams and just plain good info.

Hope everything checks out for you.
