:dontknow:, new to the sight and already a ?, ac 500 fis, when started eng. at high rpm (throttle froze), shut her dwn , backfire, restart highrpm, shut dwn another backfire, now when i try to start it blows the ign. fuse (3-10 amp fuses), lights, winch work but try to start blows the ign. fuse. has anybody a suggestion as to what to check for ?. (already checked for loose conn. ).

First all. With a volt meter check the battery voltage and make sure it has 12 volts dc. Also check to see if you have 11-12 volts or more when the engine cranks. If you see a very large drop begin by re-charging the battery. If the battery is beyond charge try replacing the battery. Once the battery is replaced then try it. If you are still experiencing this problem I would venture to say you have a high resistance short or a faulty CDI box. Have you completed any mods lately?

gw, havnt done any mods that are elec. related, did notice this morning before starting that bat. was low, topped off batt. with distilled water , trickle charged. atv fired up no prob. ( the cats lair has no heat), ran for 2 hrs (plowin ) , just wundrin ,by shuttin dwn motor at high rev (1/4 throttle) if it damaged the cdi after back firin?. anyhow i will check batt. tomorrow as per ur suggestion. i"ll let you know when fixed,

Moog Had that issue with my H1. It was a low battey. I kept blowing ignition fuse. My issue was that I was in the woods. Thank god for keeping spares. After blowing three the fourth finally held enough for me to get it home. After a charge of battery and re fill of it with water it held off fine. Also check for lose ground under seat on frame. I have heard of these coming lose often.

thom, i checked the batt. was at 11.68, threw on the charger , after 20 mins. tryto start atv,fired right up(with charger on). so ok then i think i need a new batt.,i shut it dwn, wait 10 mins try to start again NOTHIN , the pod display works & lights work but starter dos"nt. i guess i have to start chasin wires. BTW when atv ran removed charger and checked batt. when runnin was at 14.08.

I would check wires. Even after charge my bike would crank right up. Even after 1/2 hour it would struggle but still turn over. I hate electrical gremlins. :BangHead:

, i think the volts during crank where 7-8, anyways went to buy new batt., A BIG SUCKER , it fills the batt. tray, as for cca not sure . still to cold to be workin on atv outside, maybe sat. i can get to it.

well, finally back after workin out of town, decided to work on atv to try and fig. out this startin thing. after installin new batt. i crossed my fingers and hit the ign., NUTHIN, :BangHead: pulled elec. connections cleaned ,re installed ,checked grounds, try again NUTHIN, TRIED SOMTHIN,i crossed the terminals on soleinoid,the bike fired up :icon_thumleft: , so i guess i need a soleinoid ?? , what do you think.

:dontknow:, goin back out to pull starter switch , didnt check that, thanx for the idea, ya know being a complete noob at elec. seems to make a seemingly easy prob. a major headache for me :BangHead:. i hope to fix this today as we are gettin a pile of snow ,so far approx. 12" and its still snowin, just thinkin of shovelin is givin me a sore back :crybaby2: .

NO LUCK, checked wires to see if any broke or disconnected, all seem ok, when i cross soleinoid iam crossing the 2 terminals (batt. & starter ). i think i will go and talk to my neighbor ( automotive electronics specalist), and see if he can help, im sure its somthin simple, but as i said i have no clue when it comes dwn to chasin gremlins ??? . btw 6 hrs plowin sat. & 4 hrs plowin sun. awfull pile of snow we got!!.

My bet is solenoid. My POPO did the same thing. would only start when you crossed the terminals. I bet as soon as you replace all will be well.

well still no luck, in fact it got worse, first the elec. prob., new batt.,soleinoid, atv still wont start using start button, with key on cross sol. poles fires up and every thing works (winch, lights hi/lo,kill, rev ovr ride ), start in gear also works, well decided to pull some plastic so when the lad comes to check , he has easy access to all wiring. PROB. # 2 , FOUND THAT MY FRAME IS BROKE, :BangHead: :angry4: :cussing: right by the shifter mount, guess i have to talk to my dealer and see if AC will help.

well dealer no help ??? ( no warr. left) other than supplying AC rep. phone #, tried AC rep. left 4 messages no response, :angry4: just wanted to find out if this was a common prob. , have heard of 2 others that broke at same spot as mine, anyways its not a major thing , gonna prep. & weld on the wknd , :icon_thumleft:

I know nothing about the Cats but let me ask a stupid question. Is there a switch on the shifter mechanism so it will crank in park without holding the break lever. If so, could a wire on that switch, or that switch itself be grounding out somehow. I ask this b/c you said it would crank in gear which means the shift mechanism would NOT be depressing the switch if one is present. Just a thought.

no prob. busterw, the cats dont have park, only l-h-n-r, atv can be started in gear by depressing brake lever, just finished removing body shell(what a job!), lookig a wire harness i see that air box was chaffing the wire harness (some wires wore down),also found some corrosion at connections that are not accessable with body plastic is on , looks like a busy wknd, :laughing7:
