FI Controller Settings

Hello all. I've recently installed a Dynatek ignition box with an EHS racing FI controller and exhaust tip on my '07 Grizz 700. While the setup seems to be working good I think the FI controller needs a little tweeking. I had it out this pas Sat. went 170 km, whenever we would stop the bike would idle for a few seconds and then stall out. Whenever I would stop from about 40 km/h it seemed to me that I could smell gas now that could be from the small tank I had on the back, but is it possible it was comming from the exhaust?? The stalling I attributed to the spark plug still being the original, and changed it when I got home I haven't had any seat time since then. I'm new to this tuning thing and have read lots of posts on the topic, I just want to make sure I do it right so I don't damage my engine. When I changed my plug I noticed it was brown on one side with black on the other weird but true. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Without looking at your plug it is extremely hard to diagnose. However, from what you said I would guess that you are running a bit rich. Re-check the new plug after you get some seat time with it.
Re: FI Controller Setttings

Hey crusher when you run the new plug do a few different style runs and post the results and we will be able to tell you which way to go on the settings.

when i use my but dyno i usually will make a couple full throttle runs from about 3-4mph to 40mph this will make the controller go to red mode very quickly and what your are looking for is any popping or sluggish feeling you will need to make changes prtty much only in the red mode +,- and on the grizz only go .5 left or right at a time that particular circuit is pushing a lot of fuel so a change of .5 is a lot and can effect performance .

once you get the red mode in tune then try to trim out or add in the accell or yellow circuit. usually i will be running it slow and just keep doing hard accell let off get back on get off and so forth until you feel its good in that circuit key is to keep it in the yellow but under load when you let off it will lean out only pay attention to what it does under load.

green should be close so thats why i usually wait to end because it doesnt effect the other circuits as much but by bumping it up a little could resolve stalling issues also changing your ignition with the dyna will effect that also.

also i dont get on this forum everyday but will try to get back if you get confused call out shop we are glad to help 866-997-2345

Re: FI Controller Setttings

Great tips Eric which leads me to a question for you. You said start in red and see if you have any popping. The other day, I installed a 11:1 piston in my 700. I bumped green and yellow a half click up and under full throttle acceleration, I noticed a popping. I dropped yellow back down a half and it went away. Should I leave alone and screw with red and if I have that popping, it that signifying too little fuel under full throttle mode/red?

Thanks!
Buster
Re: FI Controller Setttings

Hey buster usually the popping is a lean condition. When you are noticeing the popping what color are the lights on the controller. If they are red then yes add fuel in that circuit. If you are refering to any of the color/blue settings then moving them upwards would result in making that particualr circuit coming on later in the accelertion. Also are you running our controller reason i ask is i only know for sure how are controllers are setup. There are several factors that each will result in slightly different tuning techniques. When the designers (meaning like us or other people that design the base map the part you do not see) can set the controllers to react more to a rpm based switching point or a load based switching point. So for instance you bumb up the yellow and green circuits thinking that will add fuel to the accel part which it does but it can also make those circuits stay on a little longer so you might need to go into the blue modes and tell those circuits to switch at a different point so you are able to still add that fuel you need but go into the red mode a little quicker which is where the major addition of fuel gets added. SOooo what you might need to do is bump yellow up that notch like you did but go to red/blue and lower that by .5 at a time and see how that works this will make it go to red circuit quicker.

Re: FI Controller Setttings

When it popped it was in the red. The only colors I've ever messed with are the green and the yellow. My controller is a Gen III Dobeck that Gary programmed for me.
This may be off the on-going topic but has anyone had any luck fixing the rev limiter on a '07 700 Grizz? When the diff. lock is engaged, it won't rev when I get into the sticky stuff. Any thoughts??

Interesting question. I've heard of some aftermarket CDI's raising the rev limit but not sure if it would apply to the diff-lock rev limit two.
well i heard that the VDI take all the rev limiters away, corret me if im wrong.. and i thought the Dynatech igniton controller removes the the rev limiters as well, correct me if im wrong again..
They wil raise the rev limits. I think that the VDI will raise it infinitely. What you are actually experiencing is not the rev limiter but the speed limiter while in diff lock. I think it kicks in at 23 MPH, but I am not 100% sure.
Rev limiter

Speed limiter? I tried to adjust that but just like in reverse, in diff lock it limits the revs.
If the Dyna Tech would disable it I would be happy to purchase. Is anyone sure if it does?
