Not too many days after we bought our new turd ( I mean 07' Polaris 450 Sportsman) the plasitc melted right under the seat. I called the dealer where we bought it ( I won't mention any names) Polaris of Ripley Wv!!!! They said it was too bad and they were sorry. Today I called Polaris myself and in e few short weeks my new plastic should be here :bs: . Did I mention that the rear brakes went out as well, just 3 days after the 6 month waranty was up. I got told the same thing again by the place I won't mention( POLARIS OF RIPLEY WV) they were sorry but it was out of warranty. To make a long story a little shorter Polaris is going to fix the plastic but won't budge on the master cylinder. To keep this from hapening again with the melting plastic I wrapped the new header pipe with Cool It Thermo Tec wrap. Here are some pics of this mod I hope will keep the heat down.

With the combo of the wrap and special spray paint for wrap is suposed to reduce heat by 70% and create more ponies. The label said was good for 2000 degrees F. We will see

Typical Polaris BS. It's always the customers fault and never theirs from crappy craftsmanship.

I've heard horror stories from many different folks rolling RAZRs from tie rod ends breaking. PolaKis says it's user abuse.

I have a friend that every year get a new Polak personal watercraft. Last year, he bought a new 3 cylinder. Always goes just by the book for break in. Very anal fella. Within a few hours of break-in, stuck a cylinder. Polaris says he didn't follow proper break-in procedures and too bad.

Knew a fella that worked for a Pola dealer that rolled his new RAZR. They even gave him the same load and wouldn't fix his SxS b/c of user error. He was runnning on a straight gravel road, tie rod ends broke, rolled it, tore up all the plastics, bend the cage, etc.....user error. Go figure.

Polaris customer service sucks in every way and no matter how bad arse a RAZR is in every way but dependability, I wouldn't have one b/c of the rep that I've seen first hand from Polaris. Screw 'em!

The guy I talked to yesterday was the first that was very friendly and he was the one that said they would fix plastic. I was trying to get the brakes fixed. We are very disapointed with the customer srvice and warranty.

Seems to me they would have to prove rider neglect or error? Man that's why I say its worth it to buy from a dealer you can trust even if it costs more. Of course it sounds like a Polaris problem straight from the factory to the showroom.

Just think. I almost bought one of those things.

I just wraped my exhaust a couple weeks ago, and immediatly noticed no excess heat on my left leg.

I can say that heat wrap makes a huge difference on both the bikes. We wrapped both the polaris and the grizz and still have plenty of wrap and spray leftover. We went on a ride for about 8 hrs yesterday and we never felt the heat like we did before..I won't replace the heat shroud on the grizz, and the polaris will get new plastic from the factory at their expense.

Not only will the heat wrap keep the radiant heat down , it will also slightly increase performance by allowing the insulation effect of the exhaust pipe maintain higher temperatures thus exhaust gases flow more efficiently. OK enough of the lesson in thermal dynamics.

Did you use the same stuff Bear Humper used?

I have used Thermo tec wrap in the past, but this time around I used DEI(Design Engineering Inc). Not that I reliesed it at the time, but the DEI wrap has colored threads in it @1/4" from the edge and it did come in handy for getting a consistant wrap. I didnt spray paint it like I should. And will probably regret not doing so.
