I was talking with a buddy the other day, he used to ride a 400ex and a 450. Now he is in the army and doesn't get to ride, but he was telling that I should use Baby oil ina spray bottle, and spray it on before I ride and it will work just like XTC's MG, and the mud will sheet off! I haven't got to ride and try it out yet, but have you ever heard this? If it works, I am all for XTC product;s but you can get a bottle of Baby Oil for $4 and MG is $10 or $12!

I am sure it will work for a while, but since baby oil is petrol based, it may prematurely break down plastics, rubber hoses and such. Don't know for sure though.

I've not heard of baby oil being used for this purpose. It stands to reason as it repels water. However, it doesn't repel water for long before it washed away. Not to mention what GW said. I've also heard of people using armor all, but that would get pretty expensive too.

I used to have my doubts about XTC products, but they are consistent with their answers and their answers don't sound like "fluff" to get me to shut up. Their product is envoirnmentally safe and will probably do a better job of repeling mud than your common household items. I have yet to try any but it is on my list of stuff to do. (Man that list just keeps getting longer.)

Yeah, here ya on that list! I never thought of it breaking down the plastic, thanks GW! I have seen a few guys use the XTC products and they do work really well, I was just lookin for a way to save a couple bucks and use that for the gas tank of the quad, ha ha! It is a good point and makes me think twice bout using the baby oil! I will have to talk to him and see if he used it and how often he did, to see if he had issues! Thanks GW and BG!

When I used to ride my ATC250R 3-wheeler in mud and go to ATC races a lot when I was younger, all of the racers sprayed the plastics and engine with WD-40 before and after. I started doing it and things clean up to the condition they were prior to the ride.

I still have the original plastics on it and they look good and I never had any type of plastic break-down. They've never cracked and I'm still pretty hard on it, never faded more than you would expect, and are still pretty flexible considering they're 22+ years old.

It was made the last year of production, 1986.

Try using a non water (silicone) based lube like astroglide, it lasts longer...

I've heard that waxing the plastics help the mud to slide off instead of stick... My friend use to spray Pledge on his radiator to keep the mud/dust off when he raced mx and scrambles. Says it always smelled like a hot lemon lol...

I've also heard that armor all works great, especially on the underside of the plastics. Just be sure not to get any on the seat or you're in for a wild ride...

I use meguiars ultimate spray wax. It works great also optimum spray wax. I would suggest to use baby oil for it can damage the paint and plastic worst are the decals.
