<table border="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr> <td> More and more ATVs today are being manufactured with electronic fuel injection. In fact within the next few years on most production ATVs, carburetors will be a thing of the past.
As our ATVs evolve into more sophisticated machines which deliver more power, efficiency, and fewer emissions it also changes the way in which we tune them.

</td> <td> </td> </tr> </tbody></table> <table border="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr> <td> Most, if not all ATVs currently produced are set up as an open loop EFI system. This means that the fuel delivery is based on a pre-set map programmed into the ECU. Unlike the more advanced EFI in your automobile, this map never changes. So in certain situations your ATV's engine may run in a lean state or simply put…starved for fuel. This normally prohibits you from installing any aftermarket performance options like air filters or exhausts without some modification to the ECU’s pre-set fuel map. In order to modify this fuel map you need a programmable controller.

</td> </tr> </tbody></table> <table border="0" width="100%"> <tbody><tr> <td> We chose to test the EHS Racing Bullet Box EFI controller based on our great past experiences. The EHS Racing Bullet Box is basically a programmable controller that is installed in-line to the ATV’s stock wiring harness. No cutting or splicing is required. Additionally the EHS Bullet Box is plug and play for most user's applications. But total tuneability is available if the end user desires to do so. The fact I liked most about the EHS Racing Bullet Box was the fact that no computers are needed to tune the unit. All inputs can be accessed directly from the controller itself.

The EHS Bullet Box was professionally packaged with custom EHS logo graphics on the outside of the controller. All installation instructions were included with the packaging as well.

</td> </tr> <tr> <td>
</td> <td> Installation on the Brute Force is somewhat time consuming due to the location of the throttle body plug ins. However, the instructions provided made the job fairly straightforward and able to be completed in 1 hour or less. I need to note that the installation on the 700 Grizzly takes less than 20 minutes.
After we finished installation and all safety checks were made, it was time for our test start. Immediately the Brute Force started and idled smoothly.
Our test rides felt much snappier with the additional fuel and EHS Racing air box lid. A closer inspection of the spark plugs indicated that the fuel mixture was now a little more rich and closer to the ideal air/fuel ratio. We did not find it necessary to adjust the fuel for our test setup, but when experimenting with the display settings and interacting with the Bullet Box proved to us that future tuning and tweaking will be extremely easy. Tuning now is much easier than re-jetting carburetors the old fashioned way.

</td> </tr> <tr> <td> Conclusion

The EHS Racing Bullet Box is a necessary add on if you intend to add an aftermarket performance exhaust. It is evident that EHS Racing has done extensive research and development with their programming for the Brute Force and Yamaha Grizzly 700 to ensure a plug and play worry-free installation by their customers.
As for durability, the Bullet Box seems to be able to take the abuse of most riding styles. I cannot comment as to whether or not the unit is waterproof. However, after many vehicle washings, and multiple cross country races, the Bullet Box is still working like the first day it was installed.
Like the other products from EHS Racing, we give it a definite thumbs up for the looks, durability and overall performance. The additional horse power gain and throttle response were well worth the cost and time for installation in our opinion
If you have EFI machine and are looking to add some aftermarket performance add-ons, call or e-mail EHS Racing to find out if there is a unit available for your EFI equipped ATV.
