CARB MODS

Ok, the admins may want to move this, I was torn between posting here and the shop, but here goes.

Is there anything to gain from rejetting a carb on a Yami 660 with stock exhaust (well, I have the ebay tip) and no airbox?

What other mods are there for carbs other than jetting them? Are there after market carbs that do the job better?

That CV carb asre some of the best out there. A jet kit would probably allow it to run a little better. The Dynojet kit would give a little more range of adjustment than just jets. They usually come with a different spring and adjustable metering rod. Also this typically improves throttle response if nothing else.
Do you mean you are running a no air box lid when you say "no airbox"? If so, definately rejet.
I just caught the "no airbox" as well. Definitely need to re-jet. You might also try to install a EHS lid. The one we installed on the Rincon really woke it up.
:sign10: You guys are sharp. I should have just said no airbox mods. Yes, there is a lid, no mods.

Where would a fella find the after market carbs and do they come with jets? Or is the Dynojet the way to go?

Of course if I make this mod, the airbox gets moded too. Would be silly not to right?

The carb on the Grizzly is a great carb. The Kehin CV carb is able to support a machine with 100 HP supposedly. Stick with the Dynojet kit. 50 dollars and it will make a little differnce. Add a clutch kit and hold on.
An ebay tip along with no airbox mods wouldn't require a rejet. If you add an aftermarket filter then yes, you should rejet and you'll see a decent gain in power. Nothing earth shattering but there will be more power.

I reccomend getting a prodesign air box setup like this for a 660.

As for a rejetting kit...I'm not sure what's best. I was bad at it and bought a 700efi LOL :laughing7:

Yes I push buttons now when I wanna re-jet. :evil6:
Enough of the button pushing..."silence of the button pushers". Ya'll are making my head spin :confused2:

I have a carb, and I can work on carbs. If an EFI goes pluey, then I go tits up. So what I've gathered here from you guys is that I should:

  • Get a dynojet (still not clear as to what this is but haven't researched yet)
  • Upgrade airbox and filter
  • Install clutch kit and not just weights (Or is this basically the same thing?)
  • Without doing all of the above, it isn't worth it

True / False?

A dynojest kit is just a jet kit composed mainly of a new slide spring, metering rod and jets. It's just a more convienient way to package everything for the average user. You can just buy you a handfull of jets and doo it yourself and probably get it where it needs to be.

As for the clutch kit. All you should need are some weights. No a full kit. This will wake up the mid range and hight range.
I had a 660 griz and my advise is this, your stock carb has a c clip on the metering rod if you move the clip up it leans the mixture down will make it ritch also cut a few coils off the spring. With no exhaust this will due. If you go with an exhaust and an air cleaner you may have to rejet otherwise save your money on the kit. For the clutch kit unless your runnig 28 inch tires its not worth it for the time and money it takes to do the project.
Thanks heritage1. I'll take a look at what your talking about soon and see what that will do for me. Sounds like the best kinda mod out there, free.

If you go with the route i specified I would be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
Hey heritage1, I appreciate the advice, but I think I may go ahead and get the jet kit. Reason is that I may add other mods later such as exhaust and airbox upgrades such as the EHS Lid. or the Pro Design kit or both and maybe even CDI. This way the kit is already there, and I just have to adjust fire, no pun intended.

So with an ebay tip and uni filter, I'm guessing I won't need to do much. My concern is the difference I keep hearing about in the dynojet sizing vs. the yami sizing (jets). I'm sure I'll figure it out, but I'm calling in myth busters here, is this a rumor or is this true that the two (dyno & yami) have different ideas for sizing?

The difference in jet sizes is a complaint I have been hearing for a few years now. I can't explain why other that a "NOTED" quality control issue at Dynojet.
I've heard the same complaints about jet sizes as well.
This makes me skeptical of buying the kit. Are there other options for kits?

I don't think so.
I have not heard or seen other "kits" available, other than reboxed DJ kits by say Moose. But, I have heard that the Factory Pro jets are very consistant. And they make oversized jets as well for the big boys.
