Per my understanding, no, but I'm not an expert. Unfortunately they seem to want to keep it all to themselves which makes it a hassle if error codes come up because you can't clear them yourself. rotest:

Thanks for the input Mike! I'm going to talk to a computer geek... er Buddy, to see if he can read, or look into the quad by plugging into it. I don't know if has been done before but he is up to challenges, and is qualified to write software, I'll let you know what goes down. Hopefully not a fried onboard computer in the hopes of getting more info at home....:club:

I would seriously doubt it. Most likely the software could be found on the grey market, but I am sure Can Am made the software to require what is called a "Sotware / Hardware Key" This isn't like the key you type in when you buy a Microsoft product. It is an actual hardware piece the plugs into the computer via USB or RS-232 port. This enables the software to function. If they didn't make it that was I would be surprised; it would definitely render it proprietary to the dealer they sold or issued it to.

okay, I did a little digging and came up with some info. The only Can Am software I was able to find is a system know as BUDS. It is a setup/testing system only although there are those that claim it may be used to remap the fuel injection. Supposedly its available for download, but I couldn't find a link for this. I have never used it per-se but I do recall my dealer telling me that was what was required to clear the error codes on my Renegade when it went into "Limp Home" mode. It does require a key, but from what I was able to gather, its your ignition/DESS key. You just plug the sucker into the ignition and VOILA! As I couldn't find any highly detailed info on it, I may be mistaken but it seemed pretty straightforward. Hope this helps

my understanding is that the BUDS software in interfaced through the loose connector under the pod, not the ignition itself. it can be used to program a key to match the DESS on each specific machine. GW is correct in that each dealer has an annual license, which includes hardware to allow the software to function. aside from a couple (and i mean two) listings on ebay, i have never seen the BUDS system available to the general public. those 2 listings started out at $5K if i'm not mistaken. i have been known to "browse" some very thorough warez/mp3/movie sites, and i have never come across any BUDS software or hacks. more than likely, it is in our best interest that this software is restricted to dealers only, as anyone with access to it can make keys. that being said, BRP should release a "BUDS Lite" to the owners who prefer to do their own maintenance. this way we could clear the maint. message. i have never heard that the software allows re-mapping of the fuel injection, although several aftermarket products do. the capabilities of the BUDS program were covered in a previous post here:

Very good point and a BUDS Lite makes me thirsty! ;;s;; J/K That is an awesome concept. To bad BRP seems untouchable to the general public.

STRAY, WHAT AN IDEA!!! I agree fully, with the BUDS light concept. Too bad BRP wants to hoard all aspects of it, instead of making money with another factory sell. Nice work Stray, it would be nice if designers for these huge motorsports companies were surfing these sites, to see what the guys that ride thier machines want! It seems to me that would eliminate a lot of pressure of off them to deliver "good stuff" (as thats pretty much all we talk about here... modding, fixes, wish lists) yearly, as well as (a) trying to keep up to the Jones's, (b) selling stuff that the guys/gals actually want, there would be a need/want for the product so it's not a hit or miss concept, but dead on... maybe I don't know anything and should keep my two finger typing tantrum rants to myself... lol :beer"

Yeah I'd definitely like to be able to hook into my onboard computer and clear codes and do basic diagnostics. Would be happy to pay to buy the software at a reasonable price (say a few hundred dollars).
