Dynatek FS CDI for the Grizzly 700 Review
Review by: Buster
We just received our Dynatek CDIs from Dynatek. We've installed one today and the other one goes on tonight hopefull. We plan on getting some ride time in this weekend so we can provide a review of it soon.
Our initial thoughts:
- The Dynatek CDI FS appears well made and well thought out.
- All connectors are idiot proof and if following the instructions to the T, you shouldn't have any issues with the install.
- The instructions recommend but say it's not required to pull the right side plastics off for the install. In our findings, you may as well take the 2 minutes to remove the right side cover for the install as it will be a time saver in the end.
- We did notice a slight discrepency in the install instructions that required the installer to use a T-tap to the throttle position sensor. This was actually required for an earlier model and the latest model has a Y-connector so wire tapping is no longer necessary, which makes it more idiot proof. I spoke with the President of Dynatek about the instructions and he said they would get the instructions updated right away. Super nice fella, and trully sincere about wanting this to be a great product. Cutomer service from Dynatek already seems impressive!
- The quad we installed this on earlier today runs 26" ITP Mudlite XTRs which aren't a light tire, plus has full skids. Prior to the install and in high gear, just sitting straight up on the seat and slamming the throttle, would not do a full wheel-stand. After the install, using the same wheelie procedure, it did a full wheel-stand. Had we not gotten out of the gas, the quad would have come over backwards. That, in and of itself is impressive initially and hopefully implies that we'll see some great power gains on up in the power curve. But, we'll see this from fully testing.
- The new box also made our test quad start easier and idle better than stock.
- The best thing that we've found second to the power gain was that it eliminated the mid-range miss that the 700s have. They all have it, you just don't notice it with factory exhaust. After adding aftermarket exhaust, you can hear the mid-range miss at 25mph or so. However, it's gone with the Dynatek CDI. Yamaha screwed this up and Dynatek fixed it. GREAT!
Please stay tuned for a full write-up.
