How many folks would like to see a full review on a Can-Am Renegade 800 with a 1004cc engine in it?

This is something we're contemplating.

Thanks!

I would like to see it. I have never seen it so....why not.
Let's see if this helps your perception of it. He also has a video of a race against an Outlander (with the 1004cc) which is much heavier than than the Gade and the Outty blows a stock Gade away.

This particular quad is a turbo Renegade.
Hell Yeah! That would be insane. Got any dyno numbers?
The turbo video is a completely stock 800 motor.
I removed that video from the thread since we don't want to encourage riding without a helmet.

Thanks for pointing that out Nate.

I'll find another and put it up.

I just can't believe there were no helmets in that 1st video ??? :banging:
I don't have a dyno sheet on one but maybe MrRPM himself will stick one up here or give us a link to one.
IMO, i think the 840cc bore would be a better choice for the average trailrider. even though i'm a firm believer in "there's no replacement for displacement", the 1004cc would require replacing the stock primary clutch ($1,000+) and the addition of a remote oil cooler ($300+) among other things. just my 2 cents...
I agree Stray, there isn't too many places on the East coast that I have been where I could get the most out of that much HP. It would be fun out west in some dunes though.

true, maybe mud or drag racing also. but for extended trail riding, i think something a little more subtle would be great!
Absolutely, we all go on 100-120 miles rides. One trip to Southern WV, we will log over 400 miles. Reliability to me is a huge asset, which you cannot afford to sacrifice for more HP that is often useless for leisurely trail riding and adventurous exploration.
I am not sure if Buster even does 100-120 miles a year;;s;;
I'm thinking the same way you guys are thinking. However, with the right clutching, you could get a lot of bottom and mid range torque out of that kind of displacment. We all know how fun that is. And then, as mentioned, there is the reliability issue. The reports I've heard on Arctic Cat's 950 haven't impressed me much. The line of reliability and performance must be reached at some point. I wonder if it's in that displacement range?

There has to come a time when you can't go any higher without sacrificing reliability...

You will get where you have so much displacement something has to give...does this make any sense? LOL
certainly, i think there may be a greater likelihood of experiencing mechanical issues by increasing the stock displacement by 25%. but, virtually any modification we do may have the same effect, to some degree. i definitely believe Mr RPM has done his homework in the engine building market and i wouldn't hesitate to purchase any of his products. the issue that concerns me with the 1004cc upgrade is the additional modifications necessary for extended trail riding. from what i have read from John Cannon, the stock primary clutch cannot handle the increased hp without slippage. the only upgraded clutch that i'm aware of is the Comet, which needs to be machined to work in the can ams, along with machining the stock secondary. additionally, the increased displacement causes higher crankcase temps, thinning the oil. there are several guys who have developed an external oil cooler/remote filter, but it requires a machined insert to replace the stock filter, to plumb in the oil lines. i suppose if you have the money to throw at this project, it would be a blast. however, for most people, i feel the 840cc bore would be a great upgrade - especially if you have the heads ported & polished and upgraded cams/valves installed. combine that with an aftermarket exhaust and the upgraded intake (unless you already have an 09), and i'm sure most owners would be thrilled with the gains.

I have done the very same research stray. I dropped out of ME and went into EE but have an understanding on the working of the NA internal combustion engine. As you start modding the engines and increase the RPM's you increase heat, and as you said stray friction.

So, when you add these things, it is only common that you will start pushing the outer envelope of the engineered specs. Again, as you mentioned with all the add-ons, you are going to introduce a failure to some point. More parts added, more parts that have the chance of failing out in the field.

As I said, when I am 50 miles from any civilization, without cell coverage having a breakdown leads to a very bad day.
a bad day indeed! we didn't even mention the additional fuel consumption. all that being said, it is still IMPRESSIVE to see MrRpm run his 1004cc w/turbo in the sand drags!

keep in mind, he's running mud tires in 4 inches of sand, while everyone else is on paddles!
