Great job Gunny. What I found was when running mine on the LRD pipe, since it was more open than the stock pipe was that it seemed to make the quad run a little fat. Didn't have this problem on the factory pipe. But, no worries since I now have a tunable VDI box.

Since the VDI has a toggle switch so you can flip between 2 different sets of fuel maps, once I get #2 dialed in for my setup, I will then start playing with leaning the settings down in position one which I will only use when the Benz is installed. It may be more logical to swap those around now that I think about it and make my non-Benz setup #1 and the Benz setup #2.

From Velocity, #1 is a somewhat tweaked factory setup, and #2 is a performance setup with rev limters removed. I guess that's why I've been twaeking #2 rather than #1. however, for my application, it may make sense to flip them around and remove rev limiters for both settings.

I will also add that when I run the Benz on my LRD exhaust, it's actually quieter than the Benz on the stock exhaust. This is due to the fact that when on the LRD, the Benz actually does a better job muffling the higher decibel of the non-factory exhaust. Interesting eh?

BusterW ... that fuel map thing sounds pretty dang cool. Not sure if you've read the thread about the Dial-a-Jet thing, but it (the DAJ Kit) must work a little bit like that.
And even thou I have a Dyna Jet kit in, I think next spring I'm gonna give that Dial-a-Jet product a try.

And for the Benz muffler, well, tomorrow will tell me a lot. If it works like I have it modified for the Leo pipe, great, ... if it doesn't, Well, at least I know I tried.

I'll try to make a post tomorrow nite or the next day & let ya know how it worked.

Later...

I think you're right. See quotes below for my reasoning. I'm not really clear as to where you stand with this product? Either you modified the crap out of it or you really did confuse the crap out of me. Perhaps I can't read as well as I thought, but I think changing the exhaust would be A LOT easier.

Gun - Out

Quote:
I had to drill a couple holes in the backend of the Leo exhaust can & I was hoping this wouldn't ruin a perfectly good pipe.
Quote:
I'm still going to make the necessary modifications to get this Benz Muffler mounted & try it out rid'in .... but it may be a couple weeks.
Quote:
Bottom line .... The Benz Quiet Muffler Add-on did quiet down the exhaust noise .... but at what cost ??
Quote:
I would also like to mention ... I wasn't real pleased with the finished edge of the exit pipe on the exhaust, or the mounting flange pipe piece. They had very ragged edges. I mean, I can cut metal & leave so it'll rip or tear anything it touches ... but when I get a product from a company ... I expect them to take some "Pride In Workmanship" .... but remember, I've worked on military aircraft for over 28 yrs & the air force is very critical of a "Finished" product.
Quote:
I'm sure I'm gonna run it, once I figure out how to mount it with all the other crap I have at the rear of my machine ..... Jeez !
Quote:
So I bolted the Benz Muffler adaptor to the Power Core for the spark arrestor because it's flush on the exit end. And boy did the Benz Quiet Muffler quiet that bad boy down.
Quote:
I'm looking real forward to getting that Benz Muffler attached (somehow) & going for a ride ...
Quote:
OK, here's goes ... first, I took some 16ga metal & made an "Exhaust End" plate. I then drilled the required holes to bolt it to the Leo exhaust end. I then cut a large hole for the exhaust to exit .... lined up the Benz Silent Muffler adapter & opened up the hole to give me max exhaust flow.
Quote:
Next I welded the Benz Silent Muffler adapter to the exhaust end plate. I welded both the entire outside & inside c
Quote:
ircumference of the adapter in hopes I wouldn't have any leaks. (I think I succeeded)

Quote:
I then slipped on the Benz Silent Muffler & it seems to work just fine. I bolted it down, started the bike to check everything .... I didn't feel any leaks with my bare hands, so here's hoping.
Quote:
I knew up front I would have to "Customize" it when I bought it cause I had the Leo Vince pipe. Heck, what I did to make it work ain't nothing dude .... I paid $3500.00 for tracks & you ought to see what I had to do to them to make me feel happy. Jeez, took me all summer.

I've never seen so many F'in quotes in a message. Why don't u throw a million smilies in there too like Gunny does to really screw everyone up And then have no comments to each of them, so why??

Gunny, I think u'll like it. If it seems fat (rich and boggin') then grab a DAJ and tinker since u love to tinker. It may be that u have the fastest 660 out there running a Benz that is Ninja quiet! I'm tellin my junk is quiet with the Benz! If I could figure out a way up the steps, I think I could get mine into my bedroom at night without the old hag noticin' with the Benz on.

Dang Battlegun ... you've been go'in way back & read'in the entire thread now, ain't ya ??

OK, Yes ... when I first got the Benz, I tried to adapt it to the exsiting Leo end plate ... AND ... I had to make some modifications to the end of the Leo exhaust can itself.

However, I did a risk assessment & figured, if I didn't try it .... I'd never know ... AND .... if I screwed it up .... I could get a new exhaust ... ... WOO HOO !!!

Now, when I first adapted it to the Leo pipe, I was so impressed at how it lowered the db's, I knew one way or another ... I was gonna make this Benz muffler work with my Leo pipe ...

Now, a few months later ... I'm tinkering with the Benz muffler again to try & get it to work with my Leo pipe ... and I'm pretty sure this is gonna work. Now the first time, when I tried to bolt the Benz adapter to the Leo end plate ... it rattled the bolts loose.
Now, the end plate is welded ... I'm just not sure, with the Benz muffler slipped on, if the vibration of the motor & exhaust will cause the screws to back out again. And if they do, I'll next drill the heads & safety wire them.

I mean, a guy has to try some things out to find out if he had a good idea, right ??
I did the same kinda risk assessment when I bought the Fix Power Sport machined sheave for a Rhino & installed it on my Grizz ... & I lucked out ... it worked great. And the worst thing that could happen is, my wallet would be a little liter !
I did the same risk assessment when I decided I was tired of oil getting all over the case during an oil change & bought a remote oil filter kit for a car & adapted it to my Grizz. Again, I lucked out. And I figured, if it screwed up the engine ... I could then do the 686 kit I want to do ... Wink ! Wink !

So ... so far ... the "Tinker Man" has been lucky .... ... and remember ... nothing ventured .... nothing gained .... ... and my stock exhaust was toast, remember ... so I HAD to get an exhaust system.

Bottom line ... I would buy the Benz Silent Muffler without hesitation if I had a stock exhaust & wanted quiet .... AND .... if I was willing to "Tinker" a little, I'd still buy it. You're only out money .... & ya have to have a reason to go to work, right ??

BusterW ... "the old hag" ... ... dude ... you are so dead if she reads this !!!! .... And who ya call'in a "Smilie Whore" ??

I'm glad everyone got a kick out of my quotes! Do I get the most quotes trophy? Probably looks like this heh?

My point in the quotes was to show where I was coming from. Gunny has truly done a lot of "tinkering" with this and I hope the final result is what he's after.

Now, Gunny, are you going to give us a sound bite of the pipe with and without the Benz on?

Battlegun .... (heavy sigh) .... Hell no I ain't gonna give ya sound bite. Why you ask ?? .... Well ....
1) Those sound bites never give a true level of the exhaust tone.
2) Now that I have it all bolted up & it's working really good .... I don't want to tear it apart. Besides, it ain't like any of you have a Leo pipe anyway.
3) There are lots of sound bites out there with & without the Benz muffler ... & I don't do YouTube.
4) And finally, you'll just have to trust me on this one, OK.

So, like I wrote last nite, I went for a ride today. And even thou it was a get outta town thing, I was also testing my latest mod to the Benz muffler for my Leo pipe.
Did it work ?? Yup ! .... Did it stay together ? ... Yup ! ..... Am I pleased ?? .... Very much so ! ..... Am I gonna leave it on all the time ?? .... That's the plan for now !

Went for the ride today. The Benz muffler & end plate mod worked great. The bike was quiet. Not as quiet as when I put it on the stock can .... before I learned the stock can was cracked.
And, it was not as quiet as when I had it (the Benz muffler) bolted to the Leo end plate (I think I have those sound bites, interested ??)
But quieter than the Leo Quiet core.
I was very pleased. My riding partner made several comments at how quiet my Grizz was today.

Todays ride was freak'in great. Rainy snow covered boulders up a steep trail, mud, coming down was almost worse than going up... stood the Grizz up on it's tail twice, laid it on it's side three times .... smacked two trees .... and I'm still pull'in seat cover from betwix my ass cheeks .... But what a great day !!!

Two things I noticed with the Benz muffler on .... 1) It seems to help with the engine breaking coming down hill .... probably because of the back pressure.
2) Out on the open road ... it didn't seem to hurt the "Get Up & Go !" at all. I believe that is from, cutting the hole in the custom end plate as big as the Benz adapter end outlet ... I also think this is what makes it a tad louder than with the Leo Power core & Benz muffler ??

So overall, I am very pleased ... & I lucked out again & an idea worked. Now I just need to see how it'll stand up from long term use.

Ya all take care now, ya hear !!

Later ...
