On a quest to find a compact air compressor that we could easily store in our
quad, yet packed enough punch to quickly inflate our tire should we puncture one
on the trail, we came across the Slime Power Sport Tire Inflator. Impressed with
the size of the it alone, coupled with the fact that it was made by Slime
Sealants, a well know brand in their industry, and the array of power adapters
included in the package, we couldn't just let it go unrecognized.

Our test
setup was quite simple, as a tire that had been flattened on the trail would
have virtually no pressure after doing a tire repair. So, we removed the valve
stem core from our tire and let all the air out in order to find out how long it
would take to re-inflate our tires to the factory recommended pressure. Our test
quad was running 26x12 Mudlite XTR tires, with a recommended inflation level of
7 PSI. After a quick 2 1/2 minutes, we turned off the compressor, checked our
pressure and found it to be perfectly inflated to 7 PSI. Quite impressive!
We found
the Slime Tire Inflator to fit the bill perfectly for what we were looking for.
Should you be in the market for a compact unit for your quad so you don't get
left stranded in the woods with a flat, add a tire repair kit along with this
product and you've got a perfect combination. After testing it, we've decided
the Slime Tire Inflator will be a permanent fixture in our quad's storage
compartment.
Something
else we feel is worth noting is that the Slime unit uses the same power plug
that the Battery Tender product line uses. So, since we have permanently fitted
our quad with the battery tender adapter, it doubles perfectly as a power source
for our new compressor.
The
included tire pressure gauge ranges from 10-50 which for an ATV application
is useless. Since most ATV tires run a lower pressure and sometimes you may
even want to drop the pressure to 3-5 pounds for muddy conditions to get
more grip, we had to purchase another tire gauge to go in our kit that would
be useful for lower pressure ranges.
Although the Slime Tire Inflator filled our tire to 7PSI in under 3 minutes,
we would still have liked to have seen it be a higher PSI compressor.
However, 3 minutes is reputable and a higher PSI would be nice only if you
needed to unexpectedly use it for your car at some point.
