EHS Racing Yamaha Grizzly 700 Airbox Review
When you are adding aftermarket accessories like a better flowing
exhaust or performing any kind of fuel delivery modifications like a
jet kit or using a fuel map programmer if it’s an EFI machine, it is
almost a must to let as much air as you can in.
The only way to do that is by the addition of
better flowing aftermarket air filter such as those that are readily
available at most of your ATV / power sports retailers. Well
Eric Sutton owner of EHS Racing has taken this a step
further with his custom modified air box lids.
We ordered two lids, one for the 2003 Rincon we
use for some testing and will be reviewed in another segment sometime
next month and another for the 2007 XTG (Extreme Terrain Grizzly
700). You can purchase it as a kit and modify your air box
cover or you can spend just a couple more dollars and receive a new
cover completely modified and ready for installation. Plug
and play!
The air box lids arrived just in time for our trip to Southern West
Virginia's Hatfield and McCoy Trailfest. After a quick
inspection from everyone in our entire group like it was a newborn baby
it was time to install the air box on the Grizzly 700.
Installation was a snap and the instructions provided were very easy to
comprehend. Since these are merely modified with the OEM air
box covers the fit was perfect. The aluminum plate, which
surrounds the water resistant Outerwears fabric, is custom CNC milled
for exact precision with the EHS Racing Logo engraved on it.
Upon ride testing we noticed a nice mid range
power increase. It is really hard to tell from our “seat of
the pants dyno” but we could tell a slight difference in
performance. The real gain though is in the protection it
added to the air filtration on our Grizzly 700. The Grizzly
700 system in our opinion has an extremely poor air filter
setup. If not properly installed the stock setup will allow
dust and dirt to get past the air filter itself causing damaging harm
to your engine. The EHS
Racing lid along with the custom plug for the boxes intake
hole acted as a pre-filter during our riding in the extremely dusty
conditions. We had tested this system against 2 other grizzly
700’s that weekend and both machines required their air filters to be
cleaned every night after returning back to the camp. My
Grizzly with the EHS Racing lid did not require a
single cleaning during our entire trip.
The only downside we could see in this system is
that is could have the possibility to allow water in the air
box. I personally did not think that this was a big concern
for the Grizzly 700 due to it's high airbox location, but other
machines may be affected by this.
In summary the EHS
Racing custom air box cover is an excellent add on that will
add both performance as well as protection for your
investment. For anybody wanting to improve their airflow as
well as increase their engines air filtration efficiency, take a
serious look at this lid. You won't be disappointed. Give Eric at EHS Racing a call! He's a great
guy to work with and offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee!
We give it the TORTURED stamp of approval and endorse EHS
