if your looking for a lil more power

If your looking for more power i put 4 kodiak 450 clutch weights in my grizzly 700, and i find my bike actually has a lot more low end, the Low range rips li, i also have HMF swamp series, all that really did was give me a lil more throttle response and nice deep sound.... soo i just thought i'd tell ya if your looking for a cheap clutch kit 4 450 weights are pretty good.... and i have 29.5" outlaws on for tires...

can you elaborate a little on what changed with the bike with the 450 weights? can you get the front up in the air easier if you are in mud/ water? get some low end snap and mudding power? looking at doing this mod myself....

MGR - I have a good friend who has a 660 with HMF Utility, jetted, dalton clutch kit, 26" Mud Bugs, 12" 108 ITP's. His has low end torque, but won't lift the front up without serious effort and english. I don't know how the 450 weigts differ from the dalton weights. I've read mixed reviews. It seems the reports of super wheelies on 660's are not the rule, but the exception. I tend to think those who claim their 660 will lift up without effort have either done serious engine modifcation or clutching modifications or both. Having owned a 660 and having driven his many times, I simply think the geometry of the 660 doesn't allow the front to be lifted (wheelied) easily. He has a turbo to install on his 660, but I think it still will not wheelie, but I'll bet it will send rooster tales 30 feet in the air lol.

Off my rant, if you want to loose top end and get back some low end, switch weights.

yeah I hear ya.. even stock weights right now I practically have to be kneeling on my rear rack/bag to get the front up.. though I am not a big guy so who knows if that is the issue either, I can't "pull" it up.. not sure if the trouble is worth it to just get a little more low end... My buddy has a honda rincon and he just punches the throttle and the whole bike shoots up in the air, so much he put a wheelie bar on the back so it wouldn't flip over..

I hear ya. If I'm on pavement I really have be careful with my Outlander. Another thing to consider is that Monster was talking about a 700. There is some difference in the clutching there. I had some 450 weights for my 660 but never installed them. I would have eventually but I sold the quad. Honestly though, the change is really quite simple.

do you think it will be a noticable change? i would need 4 weights right because there are 8 total.. One issue is I don't have the sheave holder, and can't find one online anywhere that looks like the yamaha one. I wonder with a partner with a pair of gloves could hold the sheave while I back the nut off with a breaker bar.. ( I got a 2 foot one). I know I could use a impact wrench, but I would be afraid to not get it retightened enough to the required 85ft-lb torque, I have a torque ratchet that could get the job done but holding that sheave is a big holdup for me.. any ideas? suggestions?

I can't remember if I used a screwdriver or a block of wood...but in either case, I didn't use the fancy (read expensive) tool. I was just extremely careful. I may have even backed the nut off using an air rachet but I for sure used a normal torque wrench to tighten.

You are correct, you will need 4 weights and you will notice difference.

just for the heck of it I stopped by my local yamaha dealer and asked them about the clutch tool, they had to look it up from the service manual, then call their supplier, and the darn thing is 150bucks, plus shipping and tax... I laughed and took the print out of it and by the good picture I have I may be able to manufacture one. haha for like 10-15 bucks...
