Grizzly 700 Stalling at idle

My grizz just start having problems stalling at idle. By this I mean if I'm out riding and I stop to cross a creek, load up in the truck or back in the garage, it will just stall. Sometimes if I just pull up to talk to someone it stalls. Now it seems to run good otherwise, more of an embarassment than anything. I read that the TPS (throttle position sensor) was most likely the culprit.
I took it in to the dealer, they checked everything out and said all was okay, but I did have an irratic idle and this stall issue.
They replaced the TPS and I it still stalls. The dealer can't figure it out and neigher can I. My ride has about 800 miles on it and I bought it new in 07. See my signature for all my add ons. One other note, dealer thought the quad was running too rich as the plug was black and wet.

Anyone know what to do next? Heard something about the reverse limiter getting dirty, but my quad is never muddy.

Post a picture of the plug. That will be forthcoming to whether is is properly tuned.

I checked the plug last night. It looks fine, the plug the dealer replaced was the original, so with all the playing around with the mods, I don't think the plug is the issue here.
Stalling at idle is the issue.

All of the Grizzly 700s do that. We've had two of them that both do it, and I've ridden with other Grizzly 700s that also do it. I'm not sure anyone has really determined what the cause is, but I think it is an error in the fuel injection programming and/or CDI programming. All Grizzly 700s have the mid-range miss as well, and I think that is also an error in the fuel injection programming and/or CDI programming.

I have heard of some people eliminating the low RPM stall by removing the roll over valve in the gas tank vent. That would be a free fix if that does it, so probably worth a try. The low RPM stall doesn't really bother me too much, because the Grizzly starts in gear. You just need to pull the rear brake lever and hit the starter button, and the Grizzly is running again in less than a second. It is a nuiscance though, and you would think Yamaha could figure it out for the $8K+ they get for each of these Grizzlys.

The mid-range miss in the Grizz700 is actually in the CDI programming. When we replaced our CDI on our test 700's with the Dynatek CDI box, the mid-range miss went away. It also ran much smoother at idle than with the stock CDI. The stall off of idle we were able to resolve with our fuel controller by giving a slight amount more fuel on the idle fuel curve. However, if the dealer says it's running rich, you need to know at what point in the fuel curve it's running rich. Is it idle, mid range or the high end range. If you attach a good close-up pic of the plug, we can look at it and give you an idea.

You also mentioned that sometimes when you come to a complete stop it will stall. Have you checked the idle to make sure it's within specs. It should be at 1,600 RPMs. if it's too low, which it sounds like it is, this could be the root of your problems.

First thing I did was adjust the idle and since the knob by the airbox was already adjusted to the max from the factory, I had to adjust it down on the left side of the machine, under the airbox. What a pain that is. The dealer threw my plug away, so I'll have to ride some and then pull the plug. I have the EHS tuner and talked to Eric. He said at idle the tuner barely adds any fuel.

Have you heard that the reverse limiter could possibly be a problem?

There is a method on troubleshooting the TPS that I believe is in the service manual. I can try to dige it out and find out more if you don't have a manual. You basically need to measure resistance at the TPS. and adjust accordingly. I don't recall where I read that but just remember reading about it somewhere.

If you have the Dynatek installed then you can hook up the reverse rev limiter and see if that solves the problem. It could be an easy fix as just that.

Yes, got the service manual, but I just had the dealer replace the TPS and supposedly the new one is in spec.

I plan on wiring up the dynatek reverse override sometime this week, probably weekend. It's been raining and supposed to continue to rain, so I doubt I'll be able to ride this weekend.

I have had the same problem on my 08 grizz 700. I called the dealer i purchased it from (AK fun center)and they told me that they have never heard of this problem (bull poop) They also told me i never needed to have my valves adjusted? So i called Anchorage yamaha and the service tech told me that they have done some reprogramming on several quads with no complaints or comebacks. He said it would cost about 100 bucks. small price to pay, since yamaha wont. I will write back once i have the work done.
