Re: 700 Grizzly Clutch Modification ***Complete***

I am getting ready to do this clutch mod on my 660 grizzly. Has anyone put all 440 weights in one or should I only replace half with lighter weights? If anyone has any input or has done this mod please let me know.

Go all 450 weights if you are running 28" tires

Hey Grizz... the link above doesnt work anymore..
I read the article a while back but I was thinking about doing the weights on my 700 Grizz this weekend.
What was the optimal weight setup you found for trail riding. Not really interested in top speed.
Also was there a step by step here on the forum anywhere. If not I will see if I can locate a shop manual locally..
Completely stock machine including wheels and tires..

Here's the link to the install instructions with pics.

Here is my post with different weight combos. the lighter you go, the more torque you will ahve off the bottom.

Buster, I'm wondering about this clutching thing ... yes, still !!!

I started putting lighter weights in like everyone says and I hated the way the bike ran. I mean, yes, it was quick & wanted to pull forever, but to ME, it did not have more bottom end.

I actually went heavier than even a stock 700 & I absolutly love how the Grizz runs now. Much better "Crawlability" and better engine breaking. Yes, I lost some top end ... but I don't race, so I'm not real concerned about top end speed.

The weights I went with came in at 22.7 grams each with the nylon shell. (EPI rollers & EPI shells)

I'm currently running 20 gram greaseless rollers (roller & shell) with my 686 BBk & want to try that combo out with my tracks before I put in some heavier greaseless rollers. (I bought some 25 gram ones & I need to lighten them up still)

I'm not sure how this all works ... I just know what works for me.

Your comments ??

hey all, I was wondering what weights do you go if you want some front "pop" like getting the front up when going in water etc.. kinda like that wheelie action if you need it when you pop the throttle?.. is it lighter weights? or swapping out half 660's with kodiak weights?
thanks guys.. been a while since I have been on but been in El Paso, and riding at 4100 elevation, and then moving back to san antonio and will be getting into the mud again vs desert, and will need that "pop" in the thick stuff. Still thinking of doing a dynojet kit too. anythoughts on that?

Hey welcome back. Are you running the 660 or the 700 I can't remember. You may wait till Gunny gets back from Moab to comment. He has done some mods to his 660 Clutch. Look up the Modfather over at Grizzlyriders.com. He is getting ready to review a new clutch setup from UTVCrap.com for his 660 Grizzly.

yeah still talking aout my 06' 660 grizzly. I didn't need to jet it at 4100 feet, it has been running strong, but just missing that snap at the low end to get my front up if I am in some water or deep mud to get my front up.. so wondering if the weight change will make that missing link come together...
