CVT question for Suzuki KQ450

I have a 2008 Kingquad 450axi. I've never had a cvt machine before. I notice some sluggishness off of the line if I hit the throttle hard. It kind of drags a little then takes off.

Is this normal? Would a clutch kit cure this if it is normal? What are some good clutch kits for this quad?

I want it to go when I hit the throttle.
Thanks all.

I would contact Dalton Industries. Most likely they make something that will work for your machine.

Outlaw Super-Duty Clutch Kit - Suzuki 450 King Quad (07) & 450AXI (08-09)

High Lifter Products, the leader in extreme service 4wd ATV accessories, and Erlandson Performance (EPI), the leader in high performance ATV clutching, collaborated on the Outlaw Super Duty Clutch Kit” for large CC, automatic transmission ATVs. The Outlaw Clutch Kit is specifically tuned for 27-28" tires.

The kit is designed to make better use of available low-end engine torque, improve shift and back shift characteristics, and reduce belt slippage, overheating, and wear.
EPI owner and master clutch tuner, Glenn Erlandson traveled to the Bayou State to tackle the monster tire equipped ATVs of High Lifter and several of its customers, and a deep nasty mud pit used by High Lifter for R&D. High Lifter provided the objectives, the ATVs, test riders, and high performance technicians, and the shop facility. EPI provided the engineering design and new components.
High Lifter’s customers (owners of ATVs used) provided the ear-to-ear grins after testing, so we knew we had been successful.

OEM’s do a great job of designing auto transmission ATVs to perform in normal off road conditions with stock or nearly stock size tires. When over-sized tires are used in extreme conditions – C.V.T. Automatic Transmissions are in real need of retuning to deliver their maximum performance. There is virtually no bolt-on accessory that provides the amount of performance gain to a belt driven ATV as a custom tuned clutch kit.

I know nothing about the Highlifter kits but Dalton works.

I agree with GW to call Dalton and see what they have.

I'll third the notion with Dalton. I don't know squat about HL products. I gotta stick with what I know.

Thanks for the info guys.

Did you guys experience this sluggishness with your quads? Or is it a Suzuki thing?

To give you a little proof with the dalton kit. I raced a 2009 Outlander 800 this weekend on a dirt drag strip at Rocky Creek ATV Park in Culloden, GA. In a previous race against him, prior to my dalton kit, he beat me by a little. However, this time, I beat him by about 4 lengths. He asked me what I had done to my quad since the last time and I told him I had added the Dalton kit. He couldn't believe the difference that made.
