Direction2 Overfender Review - Can Am Outlander
THE PRODUCT
ATV Torture has usedDirection2 Overfenders on a Kawasaki Brute force 750 and a Can Am Renegade 800R X with much success so naturally we turned to them again for the Outlander 800R XT. When I received the fenders they were nicely packaged and well protected. The fenders were without blemish and appeared to be well designed, which prompts me to talk about the design of these overfenders. These fenders are not just plastic pieces shaped to fit on the fenders of the Outlander 800, they are well thought out in design. What I mean is they took the time to think about where the fenders need to offer extra protection and capitalized on that. From the moment I had these fenders installed, I knew they would do a great job adding extra splash protection on the Outlander 800.

THE RIDE
 | Just as I had assumed from the looks of the Direction2 Overfenders, their protection from splash is supreme. I’ve been known to go for a 10 minute ride and come back looking like a mud pie. Not with these overfenders!Direction2 put the extra protection just where it was needed. In fact, I would have to be trying very hard to get any splash on me. I can now ride my Outlander in any trail condition and not worry about becoming miserable with mud/water and the occasional thrown rock is not even a threat anymore.
To speak further on the design of the Overfenders, they seem to be very durable and as I have thrown many rocks at them and nudged a few trees as well. I have had no issues with them breaking, cracking, or creasing.
| FINAL OPINION
I’m sold on the Direction2 Overfenders. If you are looking for quality splash protection for your ATV, I encourage you to give Direction2 a look. Their products are well thought out, well designed, and offer awesome splash protection with durability to boot. You will find that Direction2 offers something for the most popular ATVs and the price is very fair.

INSTALLATION

DIRECTION2 OVERFENDERS INSTALL
In order to install the Direction2 overfenders you will probably find it easier to remove the tires. Otherwise, with a bit of twisting and the right tools, you can successfully install these overfenders on a Can-Am Outlander 800 without removing the tires.
The first thing you will want to do is ensure you have all of the tools together. If you can get a friend to help it is ideal, but this job can be done solo with some patience. Tools needed are:
Drill with 1/8” drill bit
| |
| Dremel with a smaller drill bit
|
| #27 Torx Driver
|
| Phillips screw driver
|
| 10mm wrench
|
|
Step 1:
Remove the #27 Torx bolt and 10mm nut that connects the body plastic to the thicker black foot-well plastic. Remove all 4 of these bolts. (See picture 1-1) Hold the front over fender in place and insert one of the supplied Phillips bolts and 10mm nuts into the hole the #27 Torx bolt was removed from. Ensure you have went through both plastics and the over fender. Only hand-tighten at this point. (See picture 1-2 and 1-3)
Step 2:
Now you should have all 4 fenders suspended in place. While holding the fender in the exact place it should be, use the Dremel with the smaller bit and drill through the next hole in the overfender into the plastic. This obviously has to be done from inside the fender and this is where having an extra set of hands will come in handy. Ensure your pilot hole is in the center of the hole in the overfender. (See picture 2-1) Now that you have your pilot hole, use the drill with the 1/8” bit to drill the hole from the outside of the fender (See picture 2-2) and place one of the supplied Phillips bolts and 10mm nuts into the new hole. Only hand-tighten at this point. Continue this process for each of the holes on the fender and do the same for each fender.
Step 3:
Now simply go around and tighten all of the nuts and bolts on the fenders and the job is done!
