We personally feel that hand guards on a quad are a must in today’s avid sport utility market. Many versions are out there to choose from, so it’s important to know key features when making your decision.
A few features we were looking at when considering a set of hand guards for our 700 Yamaha Grizzly were:
Availability
Protection
Ease of installation
Durability
Looks
After some shopping around, we decided on the Rox system from Rox Speed FX. The hand guards themselves are actually the PowerMadd brand, but Rox Speed FX takes it a step further and manufactures their own hand guard “Perch” mount along with their logo on the removable handguard panel.
This Perch mounting system is one of a kind, they are CNC machined out of 6061 billet aluminum making it extremely durable and lightweight. Not to mention they look great too! Installation of the Perch mounting system is extremely simple. One set screw is all that’s required to affix these on even the most crowded of handlebars.
The custom billet mounts are not the only durable part in this set up. We couldn’t let the durability of the hand guards themselves go un-noticed. The PowerMadd hand guards are made of some very tough plastic. This is where we were surprised yet again. In the past we had tried other manufacturers hand guards and they were never as resilient as the PowerMadd’s. These things have taken a lot of abuse.
Another great thing about the hand guards is the availability to upgrade them to a model with wider inserts. This wider inserts allows you to install custom side-view mirrors. This feature is extremely convenient when riding with larger groups.
Installation of the PowerMadd hand guards is as easy as the Perch mounting system itself. Simply attach the PowerMadd hand guards to the Perch mounting system with the supplied stainless steel hardware. Once mounted, you can adjust them to provide maximum protection for your hands. Another thing we would like to mention is the hand guards have a removable panel to allow for ventilation on those hot days while still providing the same great protection.
We have really scratched our heads in disbelief at the sheer abuse we have put these hand guards and custom mounts through. As far as we are concerned, these two products could not have been engineered any better. In fact, we are looking forward to see what Rox Speed FX has hiding in the back room of their R&D department. Rocky from Rox Speed FX has told us to keep an eye out for a new line of products that are soon to be released. Believe me our eyes are wide open!
These hand guards have been “Tortured” for over 3000 miles and have yet to fail us or give any problems. We are happy to endorse the Rox Speed FX mount and hand guard system. They have truly earned our “TORTURED” stamp of approval. Pros:
Great Customer Service
Extremely durable
Simple installation
Well packaged
Great looks
Cons:
Perches are only available in natural aluminum finish (would like to see at least black)
