Direction 2 Inc. Over Fender Review - Polaris Ranger RZR

From the time we did our first review on the Direction 2 Overfenders, I have thought that these were a great add on for any ATV.

Quad by quad, I watched the ATVTorture crew install them and put them to their limits with high marks and positive words for the company Direction 2 Inc.

When I received the ATVTorture test RZR from Lemon and Barrets of Mineral Wells, W.V., I had specified that I wanted a different set of tires and wheels installed. So they equipped the RZR with something they thought for sure would please me.

With newly installed Polaris 8 spoke wheels and Maxxis Bighorn radial tires it was, without a doubt, one tough looking machine. The wider stance the new tires and wheels provided really set the vehicle's looks off quite well.

On our first test trip on the trail it was evident that the wider stance had no problem with slinging large amounts of mud into the cab area, fenders, hood, and the bed of the RZR. It was quickly decided that something was going to need to be changed. I was wetter in a vehicle with more enclosure than if I would have been on a quad. I knew exactly what the fix would be.

Knowing that Direction 2 Inc. made over fenders for many ATV models I went online to see if the made any over fenders for the Polaris Ranger RZR. I was in luck, they did make them; in fact, they make them for many different side by side models. A call to Direction 2 Inc. was made and they arrived just a few days later.

First Inspection
Upon arrival I opened the box from Direction 2 Inc. to inspect all the contents and take an inventory to make sure everything was included.

To maintain rigidity and flexibility the over fenders are manufactured with HMW haircell polyethylene. This ensures that the over fenders can withstand the abuse most of us encounter on the trail.

Installation
Installation on the Polaris RZR is extremely simple, requires a few hand tools and takes about an hour to get all four over fenders installed. Drilling into the factory over fenders is a required step and is a permanent modification.

The first step to the Direction 2 Inc. Polaris RZR over fender installation is to align the over fenders on the factory over fenders. Once satisfied on the placement, you take a black marker and mark the holes to be drilled into the factory over fenders.

We drilled a few holes at a time and installed the fasteners, just barely tightening them up to make sure our alignment was correct. Other sections of the over fender were held in place using some clamps. The extra clamps help hold things in place, freeing up your hands. We found that it was a little easier to align the over fenders and drill and fasten each hole one at a time.

After the installation was complete we could see the new Direction 2 over fenders provided quite and additional amount of tire coverage.

Ride Report

With the Direction 2 over fender installed and tightened, we needed to take the RZR on a test ride to determine their overall effectiveness.

We intentionally hit several large mud holes to measure the efficacy of the over fenders. We quickly determined that this was a wise decision to install these over fenders. The amount of mud and water in the cab on the driver and passenger was now decimated to nothing at all. We still got mud on the fenders and bed section, but not nearly as much as we did on our first test ride without the over fenders.

Conclusion

The Direction 2 over fenders, in our opinion, are a must have item on your ATV or UTV if you are doing any type of riding in wet and muddy conditions, especially if you are running over sized tires with offset wheels.

They not only protect you from getting dirty, but they will protect your vehicle from unnecessary damage of mud and debris being thrown onto it by spinning tires.

The Direction 2 over fenders maintain the lines of the vehicle adding not only function but great style.

Pros:

  • Easy installation
  • Quality hardware
  • Easy to read installation instructions
  • Extremely durable
  • Great looks

Cons:

  • Requires permanent modification to factory body components
