RotopaX Fuel Pack Review

Product Review - RotoPax Fuel Pack

One of the best benefits for being a field tester for ATVTorture.com is the opportunity to test a variety of innovative products. And if you ask me what my favorite product is, well…that would be difficult to answer, however one product does come to mind as one of my all time favorites and after you read this review, you will understand why.

RotopaX by GREAT Outdoor Products LLC manufactures flat fuel & water pack systems which in my opinion are a must have item for the serious ATV enthusiast. Especially those that like to explore new trails and travel long distances.
First Impressions
We contacted Jason Wallin at Great Outdoor Products LLC about his products and within a few days we had two boxes arrive at the door. Jason sent us two - 2 gallon modular fuel packs and two - 1 gallon fuel packs and all mounting hardware. The products were packed extremely well with decals and instruction booklet.
All RotopaX products are proudly Made in the USA which is the number one reason why we should all go out and purchase one their products. RotopaX is the long-standing manufacturer of the original, 1st generation fuel and water packs and is also the established leader in rotational molding, which is the process that produces these great RotopaX products.

The advantages of rotational molding vs. blow-molded products is quite a contrast. The blow-molded products such as cheap Wal-Mart gas cans are less expensive to produce therefore leading to color fade, less durability and may even leak on your shiny new plastic. RotopaX on the other hand provides several benefits that demand your attention. All RotopaX products have thicker walls with stronger construction. The colors are less likely to fade and most importantly, these things are leak-proof. The extra threads, thicker walls and a sure-seal gasket guarantee that the spout won’t leak or vibrate loose, and believe me, that has been tested on the extreme trails of the Rockhouse Trails at the Hatfield McCoy Trail System.

What I really like about RotopaX products is that they have an exclusive, modular system that allows you to customize 2 gallon packs according to your needs. You have a choice between any combination of gasoline, water, diesel, kerosene, 2-cycle, emergency packs, first aid packs and utility packs. You can mix any 2 of the above packs to completely customize your fuel and storage solution. And for the traditionalist, RotopaX offers a 4 gallon gasoline fuel pack.

Installation
RotopaX includes their unique mounting system with all of their packs. Luckily, the front rack of our Honda Rancher 420 allowed us to mount the mounting bracket directly onto our rack with only minor modifications. Some ATV racks will be more or less difficult depending on what style rack you have. But RotopaX offers other mounting solutions that will make installation even easier. On our Project Rancher, we chose to mount the two-1 gallon fuel packs to the sides of our rear rack box. In this case, mounting the RotopaX mounting system was a breeze. Once these things are mounted, you just simply place the fuel pack on the mount and twist the handle a few times and you are ready to go!

Rider Report

As I mentioned earlier, we tested these fuel packs on the extreme trails of the Rockhouse Trails at the Hatfield McCoy Trail System and during a two day event we traveled over 125 miles in varying weather conditions and these packs never rattled, never loosened up or most importantly; never leaked. In fact, we never even knew we had them with us until one certain person in our group ran out of gas; me. I just simply removed one of the 1 gallon packs, cleaned the mud from around the spout, pulled out the pour spout and poured into the tank. This one gallon of fuel allowed me to safely return back to town to fuel up again.

Conclusion

The RotopaX system offers unlimited uses. The wide array of products and the flexibility of the RotopaX system opens additional applications beyond ATV/UTV such as; RV, Marine, home, workshop, landscape maintenance and many more. As your requirements change from day-to-day, RotopaX is the only system that gives you the freedom to mix and match your packs at will. And if you need a different pack in the future, you can easily merge it into your existing RotopaX system. Now that’s Innovation!
