Im new on here but I've seen that there are some very knowledgeable people on here so I thought I'd ask. I bought a 2009 polaris sportsman 500 HO just barely over a week ago and then two nights ago I had been riding it and then when I went to turn it back on it started but it was like it had no power. Now all it will do is try to turn over but it will never actually fire up. I changed the spark plug and made sure the fuel valve was on. Any more suggestions? It only has 4 hours on it and has never been ridden hard bc i was just trying to get past the 10 hour break-in period. Whatever it is should be covered by the dealer but i dont live very close to a polaris dealer so I'd like to avoid having to take it back to the dealer so soon if i could.
maybe fuel line is pinched

The Polaris vehicle are rich (fuel mixture) to begin with. Top that off with the fact that when they sit at the dealer they putt putt them around and idle them all the time for people to see.

Find a new plug and replace it first. I think that will solve you problems. If not, report back.

BTW, welcome to the site!

I checked all the fuel lines and I can't find a pinch but i definitely thought that could have been a possibility. I have changed the spark plug as well but it still doesn't crank. I'm off tomorrow so I plan to take it by the dealer. Ill let you all know what I find out. Thanks for all the ideas!

Hey sorry its been a while took it to the dealer started on the first crank. I was so ticked then they just "tinkered" with the carburetor and said it was fine. Well two weeks later im in the same boat just died on me today randomly and wont start again. So I called the dealer and said clearly its not fine and when I described the problem to the guy he thinks they may need to rebuild my carburetor this time. Im so frustrated! I thought I would avoid this hassle by buying a new one. Guess not.

I had almost the same problem. My 500 sat for a month or two and then I tried to start it and it just turned over and over..... I checked everything then realized it was a fuel problem. I replaced the filter as instructed from my dealer and still no fuel! Finally I started playing around with the shut off valve and realized no fuel was even getting to that point! So I just blew into the gas tank and that pushed fuel back into the line. now it runs like nothing ever happend. I hope this saves somone from taking their wheeler in and paying for a few hundered bucks in parts that they dont need.
