Mount Moosilauke news letter
Hello fellow ATVers and welcome to the riding season of 2011! As I type this on may 22nd trails are scheduled to open tomorrow and I can't wait to go riding. We here at Mount Moosilauke ATV Club have some club information we'd like to share with you. First of our meeting location has changed. We will now be meeting at the Pythian Sisters building in Warren. This is located at the junction of Water Street and Route 25C just behind Calamity Janes restaurant. This should make it easier to ride after the meetings because it is very close to our parking area. Our 2011 meeting schedule is as follows; June 4th @ 9:00am, June 25th @ 9:00am, August 13 @9:00am and September 10th @9:00am. We don’t have a lot of trail work to get done this year (but there is still enough to need a few good hands) so there may be time to get out and ride.
Our clubs main event every year has been Warren Old Home Days and we’ll be doing it again this year. This year the weekend is July 8th-10th. We will be riding in our towns Old Home Days Parade on Saturday morning and following it up with our annual poker run. After the poker run we return to Verns’ yard for a giant cook out put on by the great chefs from New Durham Valley ATV Club. This is a free cookout, but you could not even buy food this great, these guys can cook. I allow free primative camping on my lawn for the weekend. There are events going on in town all weekend, including fireworks on Friday night. This is a great family weekend, come on up and join us. Something new we are doing this year is donating all profits from the weekend to the Warren/Wentworth food pantry. Our clubs trails and finances are looking pretty good, but a lot of our friends and neighbors need a hand in these bad times. While the club will be making a cash donation, please feel free to bring canned food items if you wish (not required). Terry (our T/A) is working on a no registration waiver again this year.
Other events around the state for 2011;
6/24-26 New Durham Valley ATV Club camping weekend @ Big Rock Campground in North Strattford
7/8-10 Warren Old Home Days (see above)
7/24 NHATV Clubs Mt Washington Ride
7/30 Jericho Park in Berlin, ATV Festival and mud run
8/5-7 North Country ATV Clubs Rodeo
9/9-11 Paul Schaline food ride with camping @ New Durham Valley
10/14 Margurites Childrens Cancer Life line ride and poker run @ New Durham Valley
Other tid bits;
We will be doing a little work on our road crossings to keep the state happy.
The Ashworth/Kennepennar owned section of the school house loop trail is closed to dirt bikes. This was not a club choice, but a land owner decision. Last season a dirt biker was ripping it up right in front of him and when confronted by the land owner the operator showed no respect. Please people, don’t let this happen. We at MMATV put a lot of time, effort and materials into keeping trails open, please do not ruin it for every one.
A huge thank you to those who stayed off the trails during “mud season”! Follow that with a “what were you thinking?” to those who went riding while the trails were closed. Those of you who rode aggravated private landowners and Bureau of Trails all the while making us look bad.
There is now a mini golf course on the southern end of our trail system and our trail dissects it, please go slow and use caution. People will be crossing the trail.
The Glencliff loop trail will be closed the weekend of June 4th for a fireworks shoot at the dam. We are welcome to go and watch, but please do not try to cross.
Until Next Time,
Vernon Brigham
