Talking .458 socom

Ah man....the list of wants just keeps getting longer. This thing has my attention for sure.

It uses an unmodified AR15 lower and even AR15 Mags, but gives the knock down we Combat Arms fellas have been fussing about since Vietnam. The ammo available is great and the performance is reported as flawless using subsonic 500GR meat tenderizers.

The master minds of this thing are Teppo Jutso and their web site offers a great deal of information on this and some other amazing weapons. If you're a sucker for fire power, check em out.

Pic attached of Teppo Jutsu's special project "MJOLLNIR" in .458 SOCOM.

Yep, I had one of those beasts. You should see what it does to a whitetail!

I think the muzzle energy is equivalent to being run over by a coal truck running 65 MPH.

I traded some stuff and ended up with a very similar weapon called the .50 Beowulf. Basically the same ballistics.

Quite simply this weapon puts the "bad" in "bad ass"!

Yeah, I've don't some reading on this weapon myself. What a nice weapon. And way cheaper than a .50 cal rifle.

One of my nephews has the .50 cal sniper rifle, so I'll wait for him to buy this .458 SOCOM .... guys, you should see his walk-in weapons safe .... OMH !!! ...... anyway, when he gets one (which I'm sure he will), well then ... I'll suggest we go out & see what it does.

Should be fun

.50 Cal Barrett...Ohhhh Yea! I have had the opportunity to touch those off a few times over in the litter box. I gotta say, that thing is awesome.

While the Beowulf or the Socom will pack some heat, it's nothing of the likes to the .50 BMG. But with the devastation they cause on whitetails, image their capabilities on tissue.

Yeah, that .50 cal is WAY cool !!! ..... but it'll be interesting to see if he does pick up one of these .458's

He has another weapon that gets me all sweaty ... it's an AR looking weapon that's a 12 ga shotgun. Uses mags that look just like a .223 mag ... only bigger or it can use a mag that has a drum on it ....... semi-auto ..... can you imagine having that loaded with 10 rounds of "Double 00 Buck" when someone tries to break into your house ... bang, bang .... yer dead !!!

He also has a 1911 .45 cal pistol that the slide cracked .... so instead of buying a new slid action for it, he found this set up that turns the pistol into an assault weapon. Has a stock, longer carbine type barrel ... it is so cool.

Then he has the "Silencer" for an AR .308. Yup, he is licensed with the FBI, CIA, ATF, ....... everybody ......... now THAT is cool !!!!!

The .50 beowolf is a great, hard hitting weapon for sure. I've actually got to play with one of those. The .458 SOCOM appeals to me more for some reason. Now the .50 BMG is in a league all of it's own. Shot for shot, I don't think there is a shoulder fired, semi-auto weapon in the world that can shread meat like that thing.

I agree with GW, get Gunny's nephew signed up over here. I'd love to see some of those weapons!

Yeah it appealed to me less cause of the money really. I ended up with the Beowulf rather cheap. I think the .458 Socom now reaches in around the $1200 range doesn't it?

Ballistically, there is not much difference. But the Beowulf is easier to reload for.

Here is a comparison...

From left to right: 5.56x45, .458 SOCOM, .50 Beowulf, .499 LWR

Bigger is better right?
Now, looky at the .499 LWR.

Bigger is better in most applications, but not always. What are the ballistics of that .499? I'm not into reloading. I don't have that much range time, much less time for reloading. When I retire or get one of those nice 9-5 monday through friday jobs and the kid gets into high school and doesn't like me anymore I can probably do more of the things I enjoy.
