DEER BLASTERS

There doesn't seem to be a lot of hunters in here, but for those of us who are; what is your favorite deer rifle?

Right now I enjoy my Winchester Model 70 in 30.06. It has black syn. stock, floated barrel, leupold optics, and advantage timber recoil pad/cheek rest. I use a safari sling when walking it. It likes the Remington Accutip ammo the best and trust me I had to go through every premium ammo out there to find the ammo this weapon likes. Last time I shot it my holes were touching at 100 and durn near it at 150. It won't group that well with any other ammo. I don't reload, and if it's going to shoot that well with factory loads, no need to.

I might add that this weapon shoots accuate enough to varmit with. It's kinda fun to watch what happens when the 30.06 hits a hog.

45-70 or 450 Marlin for CQ. For long range shots I like my 7mm RM.

Re: DEER BLASTERS

I hunt but am a bow hunter. Right now I am still shooting my Oneida Eagle. Oldie but goodie. I would like to pick up a Bow Tech Diamond but 799.00 for a full set up is steep now. I really need to get into the gun scene though. Seems to be where all the big deer get taken around my part of the world.

Re: DEER BLASTERS

We cant shoot riffle due to being flatlanders - We have a muzzleloader and shot gun season
I have a h&r single shot 20 gauge -bushnell scope that is a tack driver at 100 yards , my 10 year old girl has the same gun in a yuut model. I also have an 870 pump with a cantelevered barrel and scope - you can mow down an entire herd with that thing if they get close enough !! thats my meat stick !!!

My favorite is my Hoyt Vetrix - love my Hoyt - bow hunting s the best !!!

Re: DEER BLASTERS

I use a hoyt ultra light for bow hunting. For gun hunting I have an arsenal to choose from my favorite is my AR 15 223 small but very effective. Next would be my rugger 77 338 mag, remington 300 mag and last but not least my savage single 3030. for varments I use a winchester 70 22-250 or again my AR 15 223 all of my rifles are customised in one way or another from mussel brakes to triggers to full custom target.

Re: DEER BLASTERS

  • KoKo, you don't like guns or just don't have any? Couldn't tell since you flammed me. lol
  • captjack, I'd love to have an 870. one of the best shotguns ever produced for the money
  • heritage1, they let you guys use .22 caliber to hunt deer? WOW! Not so where I'm from. Has to be .243 and up for us.
  • I picked up a cheap browning bow (and ugly too) to see if I thought I would like bow hunting. Sure enough I loved shooting it and the wife even thought it was fun. But then life happened and it's been in the closet for like 4 years. Maybe one day I'll pick up shooting bow again, but the next thing on my list is a good varmit rifle (22-250 or 220swift) and a muzzle loader even though I'm not a fan of it, I feel like I miss the chance at a lot of game by not muzzle loading.

Nope. I don't and won't own a target weapon. Line up to my standard (tack driving) and while doing that and experimenting with differnt ammo you get a feel for the ballistics. Then its only to harvest game.

But I agree, they are screaming fast out of the barrel. Same thing with the newer less reviewed WSSM .243. So fast I'd worry about the barrel. But I believe you can get a bull barrell (comp) for the swift and that should take some of the heat.

Re: DEER BLASTERS

I love my 220 Swift. Speed kills and barrels are cheap.
